MaintenanceJob Summary:

The Process Controls Technician position is responsible for safely maintaining, repairing, installing and/or replacing the plant control system and physical equipment in the plant safely, correctly, and efficiently. Technicians install, troubleshoot, service and perform preventative maintenance on DCS, PLC, SIS, and other process equipment and programming. The technician efficiently repairs, or if necessary, replaces the equipment in order to permit the plant to operate on a continuous basis. They also install, service, test and perform preventative maintenance on various other electronic equipment. The Process Controls Technician meets this responsibility by understanding and adhering to standards that align with best practices defined by the CF DCS Best Practices.

Job Description:

Key Job Elements

1. Ownership of the process control system (Distributed Control System [DCS], (Safety Instrumented System [SIS], Programmable Logic Controllers [PLCs] and associated devices; Variable Frequency Drives and communication networks) to ensure its availability and capability as the control platform and process operator interface.

2. Management of the DCS and PLC platform and associated infrastructure regarding its maintenance and life-cycle management to ensure continued reliability.

3. Maintenance of the process information systems data historian and connectivity to the DCS.

4. Maintains Yokogawa Centum VP DCS, ProSafe SIS, DeltaV DCS/SIS, and Allen-Bradley PLC, which include building points, revising graphics, alarm management, tuning, logic programming and hardware.

5. Provides assistance in support of loop checking of new or existing instruments.

6. Support site automation hardware and process control network infrastructure.

7. Develops, updates, and maintains automation systems documentation.

8. Work with Process Control Systems Supervisor to establish vision and strategies for advancing and transforming control systems and technology.

9. Implement and monitor cyber security as it applies to the Process Automation Systems. E.g. Anti-virus updates, Microsoft patches, Vendor system patches. Perform, validate, and verify system backups and disaster recovery.

10. Utilizing DCS, PLC and communications technical expertise to provide day to day troubleshooting to operations, engineering, and maintenance personnel.

11. Assisting with design, implementation and management of improvement projects related to the DCS/PLC platforms and networks.

12. Troubleshoot, analyze, maintain, and repair instrumentation and electrical systems, primarily focused on DCS/PLC but providing additional I&E support as needed.

13. Working within a team environment that includes Process Engineering, Operations, Maintenance and Projects.

14. Candidates must follow all safety rules and keep work areas in clean condition.

Position Requirements:

1. Minimum H.S. diploma or GED

2. Completion of a formal apprenticeship program or equivalent combination of work experience and technical training required. Associate degree from technical school is desired.

3. Strong technical knowledge in the fundamentals of controls engineering and controls systems. Strong Background and skills in Industrial Instrumentation, including industrial analyzers, pneumatic control valves and systems, basic electronics, motor control systems, Distributed Control Systems, Programmable Logic Controllers, and Safety Instrumented Systems.

4. Ability to read and understand control system-related documentation such as P&IDs, logic drawings, electrical drawings, and vendors' installation/user manuals.

5. Basic understanding of interfacing industrial communication technologies; Ethernet-IP, Modbus, Modbus TCP, Profibus, ProfiNet, Fieldbus, DH/DH+, and OPC preferred.

6. Strong Microsoft Office software knowledge and basic understanding of Windows operating system and computer networking.

7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are needed to develop working relationships with maintenance, engineering, and operations personnel in a team environment.

8. The job requires frequent standing, walking, climbing (ladders, stairs), and the ability to lift 80 lbs. occasionally.

9. The job occasionally requires overtime and callouts on weekends, nights, and holidays.
