Your Role With Us:

  • Supervises Patient Transport and Safe Patient Handling Staff ensuring that quality and productivity expectation are met; In collaboration with department manager coordinates staff continuing education for department; Assigns personnel to established work areas or project duties and coordinates schedules to ensure proper staffing levels are maintained.
  • Manages employee time and attendance; Manages and maintains employee files in accordance with Salem Health policies; In collaboration with manager carries out corrective action according to established policy.
  • Maintains a safe, healthy, orderly and pleasant work environment for staff; ensures dispatch equipment is safe and in good clean working condition; Conducts rounds daily through area of responsibility noting deficiencies and providing training and corrective action where indicated; Conducts quality inspections of assigned work areas in accordance with established policy to ensure areas are maintained at or above established level of quality.
  • Attends and participates in departmental staff and committee meetings on a scheduled basis; Attends ongoing staff development training courses as offered by facility; Assists department manager in operating department within budget and with controlling departmental expenses.
  • Assist with job duties of Patient Transport and Safe Patient Handling Specialists on an as needed basis; Possesses an understanding of the Lean Management System. Actively works to improve processes with the input of frontline staff. Actively encourages and coaches frontline staff on the Lean process and assists frontline staff with problem solving.
  • Participates in projects and initiatives in support of patient satisfaction goals; Develops and promotes effective customer service relations with patients, patient family members, visitors and staff; ensures accurate and timely dispatch of transport requests; ensures maximum staff productivity.
  • Keeps records and appropriate log books current and maintains all necessary documentation; Schedules days off, holidays, and vacations, ensuring that the facility's needs are met in accordance with hours and position control; Monitors patient transport sign out logs on a daily basis ensuring staff is ensuring compliance with department policy.
  • Participates in staff selection process. Interviews candidates as needed; Ensures that staff receives proper orientation, initial training, ongoing education and training and are recognized when appropriate; Provides and monitors individual guidance and motivation to employees to enable each one to perform to fullest potential.

    Background/Expertise:

    • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required.
    • Basic Life Support required within 90 days from date of hire.
    • A minimum of (4) years previous supervisory experience required; A minimum of (2) years as a supervisor in a service related field with high customer/client contact required
    • Department budget experience required; Previous hospital patient transportation/Lift Team experience is preferred.
    • Strong work ethic, intense drive, and initiative for quality and customer service; Excellent written and oral communication skills; Excellent computer skill in keyboarding, Word and Excel.
    • Must have strong interpersonal and human relations skills; must be skilled in counseling employees, and follow up with the appropriate forms of progressive discipline and conduct follow-up investigation as needed, reporting findings to appropriate assistant manager.
    • Must be detail oriented, maintain high level of accuracy, and able to meet multiple concurrent deadlines; Excellent listening and empathy skills; Excellent problem-solving skills both one-on-one and in group situations.
    • Ability to utilize a participative approach to managing staff; Ability to function appropriately under stressful conditions. Good stress management skills required.
    • Bilingual English/Spanish language skills strongly preferred.
