About the Job


Research Description
The Coughlin group in Minnesota is a leading group in multi-messenger astronomy. From the experimental aspect, transient and variable optical sources are studied by utilizing high-cadence, ground-based cameras to point at objects identified by large scale time-domain surveys. This method has been used to study multi-messenger sources such as the optical counterparts of binary neutron-star mergers and white dwarf binaries. The post-baccalaureate researcher will participate in the study of these and other objects using the same method and also participate in the development of simulations to analyze the forthcoming data.

Job Duties
45% Use or modify existing computer programs to analyze simulation data
25% Prepare and create research plots and presentations (poster and/or oral talk)
20% Participate in the preparation of research papers
10% Develop new computer programs using Python

Other duties of a similar scope as assigned.


Qualifications


Required:
Employee must hold a B.A./B.S. in Physics, Astronomy or a related field or a combination of education and work experience to equal four years.

Preferred
Some knowledge of Python or (an)other programming language(s).
