About the Job:

The position of Dispatcher will have primary responsibility for the administration of policies, procedures, training, reporting and best practices within the operations and warehouse department to ensure all customer transportation needs are met through the use of company drivers, and external carriers.



In This Role, You Will:




  • Ensure safe working conditions in office and adherence to OSHA regulations

  • Ensure workspace and office conditions maintain clean, professional appearance.

  • Establish and maintain relationships with customer(s), carrier(s), driver(s) to meet transportation coverage needs, reach revenue goals, and all other company objectives.

  • Use discretion in the solicitation and acceptance of freight from customers, and the selection of drivers for freight coverage needs with the objective to maximize profitability.

  • Use discretion in sourcing freight from third-party logistics firms, negotiation of rates and load selection for delegated drivers when customer freight is not sufficiently supporting equipment needs.

  • Provide oversight and guidance to drivers in the fulfillment of customer freight coverage needs, freight securement and permit requirements of each shipment.

  • Actively work to recruit and retain drivers to achieve growth strategies.

  • Data entry to ensure customer and vendor information is entered and accurate and shipment information is entered, covered, managed accurately and timely throughout each stage of the dispatch process.

  • Build computerized distribution lists, create customer inventory activity reports, and distribute daily warehouse reports of material to be shipped.

  • Receive product into inventory, monitor and report levels to customers and management.

  • Schedule inbound and outbound truck and rail activities within the systems), schedule and confirm appointments and confirm pickup and/or delivery of customer product.

  • Manage EDI/ASN transmissions and tracking and customer invoicing.

  • Record and report accidents, incidents, claims and service failures.

  • Participate in orientation and training programs for drivers and contractors.

  • Learn all appropriate computer system(s) including GPS satellite technologies thoroughly to;

    • Adequately cross train employee(s), driver(s).

    • Identify new and unused resources to maximize software utilization.

    • Maintain and clean up master files; customer, carrier, directions, etc.

    • Learn how to fix common daily issues/errors/ problems in the system.

    • Manage, record performance metrics for driver(s), customer(s), carrier(s).



  • Responsible to track driver hours of service to insure the safe and timely delivery of customer freight while working within the federal regulation established by the DOT and FMCSA and ensure compliance.

  • Manage and monitor drivers' performance, record and report any non-compliance, late deliveries, and provide performance feedback to drivers of whether objectives are satisfactorily met or provide disciplinary measures when performance does not meet standards.

  • Act as the first line of defense for resolution of customer, carrier, and driver related issues.

  • Use discretion and judgement in resolution of customer and driver related issues to diffuse situations and maintain Company reputation as a professional service provider.

  • Authority to use discretion and judgement in retrieving abandoned equipment, or for load recovery needs due to abandonment, breakdown, or accident.

  • Provide on-call assistance after normal business hours and on weekends for any operational or safety related issues that may arise.

  • Work with Safety to assist in communicating needs, safety information, participate in claims and accident investigations, improvement of log compliance, CSA scores, etc.

  • Work with Maintenance to insure proper pre/post trip inspections and timely preventative maintenance is performed on all equipment to minimize delays and breakdowns.

  • Collect and provide all pertinent paperwork for the timely management of customer requirements and company procedures for accurate billing, payroll, payables, etc.

  • Provide operational support during vacation(s), sick day(s) and periods of growth.

  • ALL OTHER DUTIES AND PROJECTS AS ASSIGNED.

Required:




  • Bachelor's Degree in business or related field and/or a minimum of two years professional work history is required.



  • Experience in transportation, warehouse is industry is preferred. Must be literate in Microsoft Office software programs and be able to type a minimum of 35 words per minute.

  • This position is designated as a safety sensitive position and will include a 5-panel drug test that includes marijuana.
