Starting Pay: $25.70/ hr.
Hours: 1st shift
Job Function:
The Union Driver role is responsible for operating machinery and to drive a truck up to 58,000 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) with safety as the priority. This position requires loading and unloading of trucks with attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Check vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order.
- Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew and checking that vehicle and loading equipment are properly positioned.
- Collect delivery instructions from appropriate sources, verifying instructions and routes.
- Complete Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports daily.
- Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles.
- Secure cargo for transport, using straps, blocks, load bars, etc.
- Drive trucks through weigh stations to document weights and comply with state regulations.
- Drive trucks with capacities greater than 3 tons to transport and deliver products or other materials.
- Obtain receipts or signatures for delivered goods and collect payment for services when required.
- Operate equipment, such as telephones, to exchange necessary information with bases, supervisors, or other drivers.
- Perform basic vehicle maintenance tasks, such as adding oil, fuel, or radiator fluid or performing minor repairs.
- Read and interpret maps to determine the most efficient vehicle routes.
- Complete Machine Inspection Sheet for Electric Pallet Jack.
- Load and unload trucks, or help others with loading and unloading, operating any special loading-related equipment on vehicles and using other equipment as necessary.
- Verify piece counts.
- Other duties as assigned.
