Analytical Instruments Group (AIG) - Materials & Structural Analysis (MSD) Division

Our Thermo Scientific brand in Analytical Instruments Group (AIG) offers customers in research, academia, industrial, and applied markets a complete range of high-end analytical instruments as well as laboratory equipment, software, and services. In the Materials and Structural Analysis Division, we design, manufacture, and support the broadest range of high-performance microscopy workflows that provide images and answers in the micro-, nano-, and picometer scales.

Position:

The Supplier Development Engineering (SDE) role supports the long-term supply chain capacity increases enabling MSD growth through the following actions:

  • Coordinate new strategic partnership identification with the global Procurement teams.
  • Develop and implement development projects/plans with strategic partners by collaborating with Supplier Quality, Global Sourcing, and site-based Supply Chain to enable continued growth.
  • Conduct formal supplier assessments to identify gaps between the current capabilities and future growth. Assessments must include technical capabilities, capital growth requirements, and labor capacity requirements.
  • Collaborate with suppliers on long term countermeasures that will enable balanced growth. Countermeasures to include but aren't limited to kaizen's, training programs, capital planning programs, manufacturing process improvement/development, improving quality control measures, improving planning systems, improving inventory management, improving product tracking/shipping.
  • Coordinate with the strategic partner in crafting timelines, milestones, and measurable success criteria that demonstrates the capacity improvements required by Thermo Fisher.
  • Hold strategic partners accountable to achieving milestones via project and program deliverables, Root Cause Counter Measures (RCCM), action trackers, and regular updates to management. Role will be responsible to highlight RCCM needs when supplier milestones are not met.
  • The ability to effectively communicate leadership at multiple levels in the organization, have a big-picture strategic mentality, handle multiple priorities, influence, and take on complex problems.
  • Contribute to supplier volume, new product introduction and supplier go / no-go decisions.
  • Participate in quality assessment process.
  • Contributor to supplier utilization decisions such as increase, sustain, or reject suppliers.
  • Participate in quality assessment process.
  • Able to influence without authority.
  • Coordinate supplier improvement activities with the Global Supplier Quality organization when required for supplier capacity increases.
  • Contribute to identification of potential supplier productivity initiatives via Design For X activities.
  • 50% travel expected.

Profile:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability in manufacturing, quality, design, or engineering.
  • In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes related to machining, ceramics, and brazed assemblies.
  • Demonstrated experience managing supply chain issues is required. Specific experience enabling suppliers to build and ramp capabilities is highly desired.
  • Proven understanding of Quality Systems (QS), Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) processes and utilization.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead and drive projects to completion with minimal direction.
  • Able to build robust relationships with Commodity Managers, NPI Buyers, Supplier Quality Engineers, Supply Chain Engineers, Project Managers, Quality Engineers, Design/Operations Engineers, manufacturing, and suppliers.
  • Capability to support and motivate change in the organization.
  • Strong business approach which enables communication with all levels of management regarding priorities and business impact.
  • Has implemented/used/applied Value Engineering, Lean Systems, Six Sigma, Agile principles, and a proven problem solver.
  • On-site preferred but remote possible.
