What you'll do

As the Materials Supervisor for Utilimaster (A Shyft Group Brand) based at our facility in Kansas City, MO, you will enjoy managing the optimal flow of parts from receiving to line-side consumption and help move the culture of your team to the highest level of performance.

As a key figure on the shop floor, your drive for improvement will be highly impactful in all aspects of material handling and for adhering to documented policies and procedures.

You will also be expected to steer and supervise changes in a fast-paced and multifaceted manufacturing environment. This includes overseeing the activities of materials associates involved in receiving, stocking, picking, and carrying out timely movements within the warehouse and shop floor.

You will also:
  • Supervise a team of Material Distribution and Material Handling Team Leads and Associates
  • Ensure clear communications with cross-functional teams, internal customers, and external suppliers
  • Oversee all inventory activities, including validation, settlement, and inventory reconciliation
  • Supervise physical inventory and cycle counting activities and maintain accurate inventory levels
  • Aid and guide team members to foster the consistent application of PFEP, "Plan for Every Part."
  • Stay abreast of material handling and manufacturing operating systems
  • Reduce waste by utilizing lean methodologies
  • Establish and maintain the materials department standards for productivity, reliability, and accuracy
  • Improve policies, procedures, and processes to be standardized for materials team members
  • Record materials practices in the EBS database
  • Build and nurture strong relationships with the Operations and Engineering teams
  • Ensure smooth materials handoff processes and stay attuned to customer changes for assembly
  • Implement corrective actions and conduct safety training for your direct reports
  • Manage activities such as vacation and timecard approvals, overtime, hiring, and training
  • Assist with safety, 5S, and continuous improvement projects
  • Manage equipment and fleet activities and supporting the inbound freight and logistics team

What you need to be successful
  • 2+ years of materials management experience in lieu of degree
  • Associate degree or Bachelor's degree in Logistics or related discipline (Preferred)
  • 5 or more years of materials supervisory expertise in a complex manufacturing environment
  • A reputation for being flexible and willing to deliver within constantly changing priorities
  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Proficient in ERP/MRP, Microsoft Office, and network applications
  • A track record of being creative, spearheading innovative processes, and making timely and accurate decisions
  • Commitment to quality and continuous improvement
  • Acute attention to detail with a goal of 100% accuracy
  • Forklift experience
