The Inland Empire Utilities Agency is a regional wastewater treatment agency and wholesale distributor of imported water serving approximately 935,000 people over 242 square miles in western San Bernardino County. Over 300 personnel contribute to the success of the Agency. The Agency owns and/or operates, and maintains 5 water recycling facilities, 160 miles of sewer collection system, a potable water facility, 19 supply water well sites, 4 sewage lift stations, a recycled water distribution and storage system, 19 groundwater recharge sites, a 400,000-square foot indoor composting facility, and a 66,000 square foot Headquarters building.



There is one (1) internship opportunity in the Facilities & Water Systems Programs Unit. This recruitment is being conducted to fill one (1) vacancy and will establish an eligibility list which may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur during the active status of the eligibility list.
Internships are limited to 25 hours week and 960 hours per fiscal year
(July 1st to June 30th)

Note: Internship are not meant to be short term, for example, limited to summer, winter and/or spring breaks. Individuals interested in short term internships will not be considered.
Work schedule is estimated to be approximately 15 to 20 hours a week; Office Hours are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
FLSA: Non-Exempt
The successful candidate will be a responsible, analytical and detailed oriented individual with excellent communication (written/verbal) skills. Great time management skills with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously are required. Additionally, the candidate shall exhibit a willingness to learn, be responsive to team needs, and assist with ad hoc projects in a fast paced and changing environment.
Intern staff works flexible hours as established by his/her respective supervisor. The Agency will strive to best accommodate an intern's time commitments. A weekly work schedule will be mutually agreed upon between the intern and his/her supervisor.


EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

May include, but are not limited to the following:

Assist in documenting noncompliance issues, maintenance deficiencies and unsafe or potentially unsafe conditions; assists in responding to safety issues; assists in responding to support services requests.
Assist with record keeping and documentation-including plan updates-of Agency equipment, electronic accessories, fleet vehicles, security, furniture, building maintenance and improvements, and landscapes.
Collect data/information for preparing reports, including PowerPoint and Excel presentations relating to facility management issues; help with research, inventory, and design of Agency signage.
Assist Facilities staff in observation of Agency buildings, equipment, hardscape, and landscape.

May assist in preparing reports, memoranda, letters and other documents regarding project management issues; assists in the maintenance of detailed records of project activities, progress and results.
Assist with landscape monitoring and maintenance oversight, including plant material, irrigation, and hardscape; may assist in identifying issues to keep Agency grounds tidy and safe.

May assist in research related to Agency landscaping and land use; may research technical, regulatory, and historical information pertaining to products and methods used in landscape construction projects.

Analyze and process supporting documentation related to the purchase requisition process, including generating purchase orders and performing invoice receiving functions using the Agency's Enterprise Resource Program (SAP).
Communicate clearly with Agency staff, and vendors to clarify, update, and problem solve important information.
Provide support services to department staff in support of accomplishing complex tasks including the development of Scope of Work, Requests for Bid, Requests for Proposals, the bid and proposal evaluation process, and contract and purchasing agreements.
Perform the full array of duties assigned including assistance on administrative/technical aspects of special projects.
Compile data or materials for spreadsheets, reports, manuals, and publications.
Participate in pulling documents and filing information.
Travel to offsite locations within the IEUA service area is required.
Perform other related duties as required.



QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES:

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent.
Graduation or current enrollment in undergraduate or graduate studies in an accredited college or university with major course work in Business Administration, Public Administration, Operations Management, Facilities Management, Project Management, Fleet Management, Landscape Management, Natural Resources, Wildlife Biology or closely related field.

While no prior work experience is required, preference will be given to individuals with prior related work experience.

INELIGIBILITY:
Individuals that are a member of the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS), are ineligible for Intern positions with IEUA.


LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES:A valid class "C" California driver's license.
Knowledge of: Facilities or landscape inspection methods, procedures, equipment and materials.
Safety policies and safe work practices applicable to the work.
Landscape maintenance.
Word documents, spreadsheets, common computer applications, record-keeping, and working with vendors and contractors.
Project management skills. Ability to: Inspect designated facilities for maintenance issues.
Write and communicate in a professional manner.
Understand basic concepts and standards connected with facilities management.

Use a desktop and iPad computer and standard business software.

Inspect designated facilities for maintenance issues.
Prepare clear, concise and comprehensive correspondence.
Organize, set priorities and exercise good judgment within areas of responsibility.
Operate a computer and standard business software.
Represent the Agency effectively in dealings with vendors and contractors.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all those encountered in the course of work, both internal and external.
