SUMMER PROGRAM COUNSELOR


A Day in the Life:


The Summer Program Counselor partners with students, their families and referring professionals to facilitate our students’ path toward independence, as well as to serve as the main facilitator and liaison to all CIP functions within the center. The Summer Program Counselor is an onsite full-time non-exempt position located in Bloomington, IN that reports to the Program Director.


This position operates in a highly scheduled environment but may require longer hours and occasional weekend work and minimal travel as job duties demand. The Summer Program Counselor position involves a low physical demand.


All the Responsibilities We’ll Trust You With:

  • Provide direct support to individuals diagnosed with Learning Differences (LD) and/or Autism in the community and in a supported apartment setting.

  • Support with student schedule changes, meal preparation, medication compliance, and other essential daily living skills.

  • Provide 1:1 social, emotional support utilizing de-escalation strategies and oversight by department head specialized coordinator.

  • Support students ages ranging from 14 to 20 who require assistance in the exploration of an engagement in the community through multiple outings (e.g., examples include rock climbing, video game tournaments, restaurant visits, park exploration, boating, etc.)

Qualities You Possess:


  • The Summer Program Counselor will possess exceptional communication skills, precise attention to detail, superior organization and prioritization skills and self-motivation in managing tasks to completion. They will have genuine empathy and awareness of the needs and sensitivities of prospective families, students, and staff.


Your Areas of Knowledge and Expertise:

  • Active driver’s license is strongly recommended.

  • First aid/AED/CPR certification preferred.

  • Experience in the field of autism and/or learning disabilities is highly preferred.

  • Education or training in educational approaches, methods, and support for persons with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or other learning differences is highly preferred.
