Minimum Qualifications
Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications
2-4 years of successful collegiate coaching experience at the Division I level.
Position Summary
Responsible for providing assistance to the Head Coach in assigned areas of the intercollegiate gymnastics program. This incumbent will assist the head coach in coaching, planning, organizing, directing, recruiting, and implementing all phases of a Division I Gymnastics program. Assist in all areas of team performance which includes but is not limited to pre-season, post-season training, practice and competition, and academic progress.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
- Safely and effectively spot student-athletes on all four events.
- Evaluate and compare athletic talent for potential growth and development of student-athletes.
- Successful recruiting experience.
- Comprehend and adhere to NCAA, SEC, and institutional policies and procedures in the sport of Women's Gymnastics.
- Effectively present information and respond to questions from individuals, customers, and the general public.
- Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only a limited standardization exists.
- Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Regularly stand; walk; use hands and reach with arms.
- Sit, talk, and hear.
- Lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities include close and distance vision, and peripheral vision.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but escalates to high during practice and athletic competitions.
- Driving to perform job related duties.
- Assist Head Coach with organizing and administering all phases of a NCAA Division I Women's Gymnastics Program including but not limited to: training and preparing athletes for competition; overseeing conditioning programs; supervising, and evaluating student-athletes; managing budgets.
- Evaluate and recruit qualified student-athletes to the University of Georgia whose athletic and personal skills make them highly competitive in the SEC and nationally, and whose academic potential makes them good candidates for a meaningful academic experience and graduation at the University of Georgia.
- Coordinate recruiting travel and visit itineraries.
- Assist in organizing and conducting practices and meets.
- Assist the Head Coach and Academic Advisors in monitoring the academic performance and general well-being of student-athletes.
- Assisting the athletes with community service projects and helping them realize and achieve full potential in each area.
- Understand and adhere to NCAA rules specifically related to recruitment and to the ongoing performance of duties within an NCAA Division I gymnastics program.
- Assist with meet requirements and fundraising events.
- Supervising team managers.
- Assisting and supporting public relations, fundraising, promotional activities, and camps and clinics.
