Job Description

Under the direction of the Director of Program Services, the Mental Health Clinician will be responsible for providing mental health services to inmates in a correctional setting including crisis intervention, screening, assessment and evaluation, psychoeducational services, individual and group therapy, treatment planning and release planning. Monitor inmates with mental health service needs in general population and specialized housing.

STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide direct clinical care and consultation services in accordance with BCSO policies and procedures and in accordance with the ethical standards of relevant professional organizations (e.g., NASW).
  • Provide crisis intervention, screening, assessment, and evaluation of the inmate population.
  • Conduct individual and group therapy, psychoeducational services.
  • Provide treatment planning and release planning.
  • Understand the relevant accreditation standards, assure compliance, and maintain all timelines required within the scope of the position.
  • Communicate and work with both facility staff and outside support agencies to facilitate patient treatment.
  • Provide individual and group counseling and case management services to pre-trial and sentenced men and women at the Barnstable County Correctional Facility.
  • Facilitate groups focused on substance use and mental health issues and which are primarily cognitive behavior treatment (CBT) based and use an evidenced-based curriculum. In addition to ongoing groups, time-limited groups focusing on coping skills, relapse prevention, and reentry planning will be required.
  • Assist in the administration of standardized assessment tools to male/female offenders and participate in development of individualized treatment plans.
  • Assist in the development of reentry plans and connecting clients with health insurance as well as community-based primary care, MAT, mental health, and addiction treatment services and other supports.
  • Assist in securing placements in sober housing and residential programs as needed.
  • Assist in the administration and completion of intake, discharge, and management information system paperwork on a timely basis.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork for accountability purposes for state grants, federal grants, and locally funded programs.
  • Coordinate with Classification Staff and Reintegration Coordinator to facilitate reintegration planning for inmates nearing release or parole.
  • Work in a team model with both uniformed and non-uniformed treatment staff to ensure therapeutic community and continuity of care standards throughout the facility
  • Complete and participate in other duties as assigned

Hours: 24 Hours per Week: 8am-4pm, weekend rotation

Qualifications

    • Master's Degree in applicable area social work, criminal justice, human services, psychology required
    • LMHC, LCSW, or LICSW preferred
    • Two years minimum professional experience in clinical social work or mental health counseling; group and individual psychotherapy; crisis intervention; and mental health assessments.
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Strong organization and computer skills
