PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The Owens Corning Analytical Laboratory has an opening for an undergraduate intern. The Analytical Laboratory is a Corporate Laboratory that supports the technical needs for all of Owens Corning's business units globally. Part of this support involves innovation work to address business-critical problems. A successful intern will collaborate with the Analytical team to validate a new sample-preparation method and X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) calibration, which is imperative for the continuing operation of composite glass reinforcement operations in Europe. The intern will be responsible for preparing samples for XRF analysis, collecting quantitative data, and performing a statistical validation of the new method. The intern will also define the precision and accuracy of the data we provide to our customers. The intern will be a key player in ensuring that the Analytical team is providing adequate support to our business units globally.
Reports to: Inorganic Lab Leader
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Demonstrate a commitment to safety and housekeeping:
- Ensure rigorous compliance to standard safety procedures and OC corporate policies
- Participate in safety meetings and trainings
- Uphold the Safer Together Stance by being responsible for their own safety and showing concern for the safety of those around them
Prepare samples and perform analysis via XRF:
- Work with lab leaders to prepare samples for XRF analysis following two different procedures
- Complete training in XRF analysis techniques to analyze samples
Perform statistical analysis of new method:
- Use statistics to analyze data and form conclusions about the precision and accuracy
- Assemble a technical report of project results
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications
- Junior or Senior pursuing a STEM degree
- Proficiency in software such as MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint)
- Able to work with in the United States without sponsorship
