Overview

The Clinical Lab Assistant II independently performs more complex duties and tasks to support the Stem Cell Transplant Lab, Novel Cell Therapy Lab and Cellular Therapy Testing Lab.

Responsibilities

  • Follow aseptic technique and clean room procedures.
  • Perform and document daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly cleaning of lab equipment.
  • Transport samples throughout the lab and to labs outside of CMCF in-person or by utilizing PEVCO system.
  • Check supply kits for accuracy and expiration prior to being needed for processing.
  • Obtain additional supplies, as needed, for processing; document supplies provided on additional lot sheet.
  • Pick-up and enter data from cell infusion records at a variety of locations across Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Brigham and Women's Hospital and Boston Children's Hospital campus.
  • Perform routine Environmental Monitoring throughout all cleanrooms and ancillary areas. Compile data into reports to identify trends.
  • Inventory Management for Cellular Therapy Testing Laboratory. Perform counts and request orders in conjunction with review by lab management.
  • Transport products and samples between short- and long-term storage internally and externally, to/from
    JF-Ground and Smith 12, to/from Brigham and Women's Hospital, the Kraft Family Donor Center and DFCI Lab Control.
  • Logs quality control samples in Freezerworks system and places in LN2 tanks for long term storage.
  • Prepare shipping containers for product shipment, may be responsible for labeling shipping containers.
  • Pulls vials as requested by Investigators and document on shipping/chain of custody forms and in systems.
  • Acts as a verifier of patient information during product receipt and release.
  • Performs Low Complexity Testing and documentation of results.
  • Works with other senior staff to manage product freezer inventory.

QA/Regulatory:

  • Works within the cGMP and cGTP guidelines and adheres to all regulatory standards within the Cell Manipulation Core Facility.

Training:

Participates in training of new clinical lab assistants.

Qualifications

Minimum Education: High School diploma required; related Associates degree preferred.

Minimum Experience: Two years of previous laboratory experience required, experience in an aseptic processing lab preferred.

License/Certification/Registration: Lab Assistant certificate preferred.

  • Capable of working in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment.
  • Ability to accommodate schedule adjustments, as well as off-shift and weekend assignments as workload dictates.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of lab safety and infection control
