Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report onsite at the Arizona IT Innovation Center - Arizona IT Innovation Center or the GM Global Technical Center - Cole Engineering Center Tower three times per week minimum or other frequency dictated by the business.

General Motors is looking for talented software engineers to help us build state-of-the-art connectivity solutions for our new Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) platform. We are seeking people who can help us push the limits of vehicle technology.

As part of our team, you will support the development, building and integration of software components for GM's advanced line of vehicle technology. Our group delivers software for GM's next generation connectivity and infotainment systems. We are looking for energetic individuals who are passionate about software and have a desire to shape the automotive industry.

Your role in this position is:

  • Work with tech leads, product owners to Document, create, maintain and/or enhance C++ build system for the embedded applications our team provides to the SDV/Ultify
  • Support our CI/CD processes for new and existing services to reduce manual/repetitive tasks
  • Recommend, strengthen and/or optimize our development environment and workflows to support automation processes for code quality while reducing possible bottlenecks
  • Work closely with IT infrastructure teams to deploy, maintain, and optimize CI/CD pipeline tools
  • Work closely with other DevOps Engineers and IT to handle all CI/CD incidents
  • Work closely with other DevOps Engineers and IT to implement and manage the integration of external entities
  • Identify repeatable deployment actions for automation via scripting or CI/CD pipeline
  • Recommend or create automated processes wherever needed
  • Support QA tools integration in the CI/CD pipeline including QA rule maintenance and reporting
  • Support timely releases of the software components our team is committed to

Additional Description

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or other related software discipline
  • Experience that demonstrates strong technical ability and/or leadership
  • Able to balance efforts between creating new features, refactoring and tweaking existing features based on customer or validation feedback.
  • Creativity, initiative, and a high level of independent judgment that can deliver quality results with little supervision.
  • Proven experience with C++ build systems: CMake (preferred), GNU make, Bazel, SCons, etc.
  • Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience as build/release engineer
  • Proved experience with CI/CD automation frameworks - Jenkins, GitHub
  • Advanced Python, Groovy, bash scripting capabilities
  • High level of Linux skills
  • Experience identifying, troubleshooting CI/CD pipeline issues
  • High level of verbal and written communication skills
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively in a global organization

Desired Experience / Knowledge:

  • Experience with C++ package/dependency management systems: Conan
  • Experience with image building systems: Yocto, Buildroot
  • Experience with Azure, Kubernetes
  • Programming (beyond scripting) knowledge: Python, C++, C#
  • Experience with system integration for automation purposes
  • Reasonable understanding of networking
  • Knowledge of Linux package maintaining: Ubuntu, RedHat


  • Experience with SAFe, Agile/Scrum and DFSS
  • Reasonable understanding of software development in distributed systems

Compensation: The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of New York, Colorado, California, or Washington

  • Compensation: The expected base compensation for this role is : $75,000 - $119,800 Actual base compensation within the identified range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
  • Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
