Automation Engineer – Deeside/Chester. Samuel Frank Associates Automation Engineer – Shift Based – 2 days/2 nights/4 off – Deeside / Chester Area
£53.5-60k + Quarterly Bonus Scheme (up to 14% of salary) + 10% Employer Pension Contribution + Private Medical = £65-75k package
Samuel Frank is recruiting for an Automation Engineer to a join a globally recognised manufacturing company with a large base in the Deeside / Chester area. We’ve successfully introduced a new Automation Engineer to this team over the last 6 months and due to a promotion, we’re now recruiting for a second new addition.
PLC knowledge is a vital requirement – the successful Automation Engineer will be able to connect a laptop, interrogate code and make modifications to the PLC code.
Key aspects of the Automation Engineer position include;
Experience of fault-finding and modifying PLCs (of any of the major PLC manufacturers) – essential
Understanding of relay logic and the ability to fault-find from Engineering drawings – P&IDs, Electrical Schematics and control loop diagrams – essential
Experience of AC or DC inverter drives – fault finding/commissioning
Instrumentation knowledge, maintaining and fault-finding control loops
SCADA and HMI – modifications, changes etc.
Methodical fault-finding skills – essential
The working pattern (your first 6 months are likely to be “days” whilst you get up to speed though) – 2 days, 2 nights, 4 days off. You will also have 5 x 18 day breaks throughout the year, with the 4 days off, plus the 5 x 18 day breaks, means you’re not working for nearly 6 months of the year, ideal for someone with hobbies or projects outside of work!
The successful Automation Engineer will be paid for 150 hours at the beginning of the year as upfront overtime payments, throughout the year, you may be asked to work or attend training on some of the 18-day breaks (on the basis that you will have already been paid).

Apprentice trained or NVQ level 3 in an engineering discipline mechanical or electrical in maintenance engineering
Ideally packaging and related slicing, dicing , thermoforming packaging machines
Production line experience on high-speed packaging equipment in FMC
A proactive approach to fault finding, a commitment to continuous improvement and personal development
Computer literate

In your new role you will:
- Supervise component manufacture in accordance with the production schedule issues by Production Control.
- Advise the Operations Manager of any maintenance or consumables requirements.
- Monitor raw material stock levels weekly and liaise with Purchasing and Production Control about stock requirements.
- Liaise with production control for order requirements and reorts any deficiencies or concerns that might jeopardise the production schedule.
- Maintain all logs and documentation.
- Being available outside normal hours to support breakdowns and maintenance.
- Ensure inspections by regulatory agencies and insurance inspectors are coordinated and deficiencies minimised and corrected.
- Co-ordinate with the Operations Manager on site deficiencies and safety inspections.
- Act as the first contact in all potential disciplinary and grievance issues, aiming to informally resolve issues; those which require greater attention to be referred to the Operations Manager.
- Interact with the team members to resolve problems, listen to suggestions for improving methods of working, liaising with the Operation Manager to progress.
Previous experience working with RADAN would be highly advantageous.
