PRODUCT SAFETY ENGINEERS x3 – CONTRACTS 12 MONTHS – GLASCOED Monmouthshire South Wales

4 Long Days on site

We seek X3 Product Safety Engineers, to work across a range of BAE Systems Land UK munitions programmes and products. You will provide support & safety assurance advice to the projects' Technical Authorities including the generation of safety and risk analysis deliverables for both new and existing products. Responsible for ensuring that munitions products comply with appropriate statutory, corporate, and contractual safety requirements. Carrying out various safety investigations and assurance activities to ensure that business and customer expectations are met in terms of achieving compliance for safety critical ammunition addition to Product Safety Assurance, a working knowledge and/or experience of the associated subject areas of Product Environmental and Security aspects would be advantageous.

AT THE COAL FACE / TASKS / RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure compliance with the Product Safety and Environment Management Framework, business policies, procedures, and associated management plans.
  • Provide support and advice to the Design Organisation on matters relating to product safety for projects and bids. This will include, but is not limited to:
  1. Tailoring of product safety management plans.
  2. Working with customers to ensure products meet safety, environmental and security requirement levels.
  3. Undertaking safety evaluation of engineering designs.
  4. Undertaking a range of techniques for conducting Hazard Identification, Analysis and Risk Assessment, for example FMEAs, FTAs.
  5. Writing in-depth Safety and Environmental Case Reports (SECRs)., including plans and appraisals.
  6. Compilation of evaluation and test evidence to support production of a Safety and Environmental Case (SEC).
  7. Creating and maintaining product Hazard Logs.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS / PROVEN ABILITY

  • An understanding of safety aspects and completion of assessments for compliance against various UK and other legislation.
  • Deriving and setting safety criteria and requirements using UK MOD defence standards, in particular Def Stan 00-056 and DSA (formerly JSP 520).
  • Applying safety management processes within Systems Engineering Lifecycles, such as the CADMID cycle and the Systems ‘Vee' model.
  • Applying a range of techniques in conducting Hazard Identification, Analysis and Risk Assessment.
  • Producing robust and compelling ALARP and safety arguments.
  • The production and management of Hazard Logs.
  • A proven track record of producing robust technical engineering reports.
  • Analytical and be able to structure reasoned arguments.
  • Methodical with good problem-solving skills.
