Location/Division Specific Information

We are searching for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our design team in San Jose, California to develop novel mass spectrometers and associated products. You will collaborate with a broad team of engineers and scientists researching new technologies and bringing them to market. How you will make an impact:

Our team supports the site's Research and Development group. As part of multi-functional teams, you will be responsible for the design, material selection, and proto-typing of systems and sub-systems destined for general lab equipment and medical device designation.

What you will do:

  • Work with a multi-disciplinary team to create components, assemblies, and processes used by the scientific instruments industry.
  • Apply these efforts to craft proof-of-concept experiments, new product development, and product improvements.

How you will get here:

Education

Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field. Master's degree preferred.

Experience

  • 3 to 5 years of applicable experience.
  • Experience with vacuum and ultra-high vacuum systems preferred.
  • Experience with scientific instrumentation, medical devices, or semiconductor process systems a plus

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication. Able to work collaboratively to accomplish objectives.
  • Critical thinking skills: able to approach problems in a disciplined fashion.
  • Use of 3-D solid-modeling tools. Direct experience with SolidWorks preferred.
  • Application of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) in the design process.
  • Design of precision parts. Knowledge of the design and manufacture of ion optics preferred.
  • Ability to lead tasks to completion and support them through their product life cycle.
  • Possesses strong organizational skills; Capable of prioritizing multiple tasks while meeting delivery dates.

Compensation and Benefits
The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $104,600.00-$156,875.00.

This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package that our U.S. colleagues and their families can count on, which includes:
