Proven work experience in cashiering; retail and/or food service experience is preferred; Proven computer experience in Microsoft Office to include data input experience; Strong business aptitude; Excellent verbal and written skills; Excellent customer service skills; Basic clerical skills to include typing, word processing, and filing; Good organizational and basic accounting skills; Ability to be detail oriented and perform accurately under pressure; Ability to work independently as well as with others and be self-motivated; Professional demeanor; As this position requires direct contact with college administrators, faculty, staff, general public and students on a regular basis, the ability to deal with all types of individuals via telephone and in-person is extremely important.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
The essential job functions and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
Provide excellent internal and external customer service; Perform all types of customer transactions at POS register while maintaining accuracy; Restock merchandise as needed; Maintain cleanliness and organization of store; Respond to telephone/email inquiries promptly and courteously; Complete filing and other basic clerical responsibilities; Process data entry as assigned; Attend Part Time staff meetings at scheduled times; Work nights and weekends as required; Support all activities of the campus bookstore.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The specific duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: Provide excellent customer service to customers in store or on phone; Greet customers promptly and professionally; Use proper etiquette when speaking with customers, whether in person, by telephone or by e-mail; Inventory control of merchandise to be monitored and accounted for as assigned; Receive cafe products, ingredients, and supplies. Assure counts match Packing Slip and PO according to procedures; Price merchandise according to procedures; Restock/Replenish Cafe Food and Beverage items from storage areas or new orders received; Monitor and remove from the sales floor expired food and drink products. Report spoilage to a supervisor prior to discarding; Process customer transactions at POS register in an efficient manner as assigned; Maintain a high level of accuracy regarding transactions of cash, checks, credit cards and accounts; Perform well under high pressure/stress situations, especially during back-to-school rush period, buybacks and other College events; Maintain store appearance, especially the cafe and surrounding seating areas, to high standards of cleanliness and organization; Process receipts and other data into the computer system; Perform closing cashier functions and balance register drawer as assigned; Complete filing and other basic clerical responsibilities; Complete all other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Assistant Director of Bookstore Operations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires an ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, computer, cash register, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary.
