Reporting to the Sr. Manager Farm & Feed Compliance, the Organic Specialist will be the subject matter expert for all things organic at Vital Farms. Heavily farm based, this role will be responsible for maintaining, assessing, and monitoring our Organic farm programs. The location of this position is fully remote home-based with minimal travel as needed. The Organic Specialist will be exceedingly thorough in their processes and provide support, guidance, and direction as it pertains to organic certification on our pasture raised lay farms.

What You'll Do:

  • Assist auditors in scheduling regular organic inspections of our small family farms.
  • Develop close professional working relationships with our Growers to support their learning and development in the importance of organic requirements.
  • Review and maintain organic input process and documentation.
  • Manage the internal input list, including all current items, future reviews, and approvals for inputs.
  • Own the new farm application process with organic certification body.
  • Lead all USDA NOP program updates.
  • Attend organic conferences, webinars, etc. as needed to stay on top of standards.
  • Be the main point of contact for OTCO, MOSA, Food Chain ID, etc. (all certifying bodies)
  • Be a SME on SOE (Strengthening Organic Enforcement) updates.
  • Be a well versed, confident, trustworthy contact for all things organic at Vital Farms.
  • Attend Organic inspections on farms as needed.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Bachelor's degree in agriculture or related field
  • At least 4 years of experience in farming and agriculture
  • Farm compliance knowledge and auditing experience
  • Understanding of FDA regulations
  • Professional communication skills
  • Analytical capabilities with the ability to generate insight from data.
  • Goal setting; internally motivated
  • Highly organized and autonomous
  • Transparent mindset towards open communication with all stakeholders, including team members, growers, and certifying bodies
