Job Description

  • Manufacture high-quality products, which meet customer and design specifications. Based upon production schedules, the incumbent is responsible for forging of product, which meets customer demands.
  • Set up and operate forging equipment to assure that product meets specifications and standards while minimizing scrap/rework costs.
  • Perform maintenance on all forging equipment, minimal electrical, to assure properly functioning and safe equipment.
  • As a team member, the incumbent assists in the determination of production schedules, raw material needs and manufacturing operations to assure optimum utilization of resources.
  • Communicate effectively within the department and with support departments to assure resources are readily available to support production schedules. Communication may include but is not limited to informal and meeting settings. The incumbent's team participation in performing and reporting on their assigned areas, such as safety, budgeting, scheduling, and charting, is important in meeting and attaining department goals.
  • Continually monitor manufacturing methods, processes and procedures to assure meeting departmental goals relating to efficiencies, equipment utilization and indirect time usage. Work as a team member to determine and implement necessary changes.
  • Assist with routine administrative tasks and department back-up functions associated with assuring that the department and team goals are supported, monitored and attained.
  • Follow and continually monitor established safety procedures to assure a clean, safe work environment is promoted and maintained.
  • Provide quality in everything delivered (goods and services) to internal and external customers through an approach of thorough planning, responsible implementation, and continuous improvement.
  • Respond to changes in the production schedule by prioritizing work to ensure customer and departmental requirements are met.
  • Actively participate and support continuous improvement initiatives, utilizing established methodologies, i.e. Lean manufacturing (6S, VSM, 6 Sigma, etc.).
  • May be expected to train and provide guidance to other co-workers.
  • Must have punctual attendance, and flexible scheduling including overtime and some weekends.


Qualifications

  • Must be able to read/write and have a good verbal and written understanding of the English language.
  • Blueprint reading.
  • Geometric Dimension and Tolerance.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Basic inspection and measuring equipment, such as, gauges and calipers.
  • Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and percentages.
  • Ability to read and interpret process routing and procedures.
  • Basic understanding of Short Cycle Manufacturing and Just in Time.
  • Ability to obtain and retain forklift certification.
  • Ability to differentiate between alpha/numeric characters.
  • Set up, operate and perform routine maintenance on forging related equipment, such as hammers, presses and furnaces.
  • Prior experience in set-up and operation of forging equipment preferred. Familiarity with temperature principles as they relate to steel properties.
  • Mechanically inclined, ability to perform basic maintenance, minimal electrical, on forging equipment.
  • Possess problem solving skills in order to effectively remedy any design flaws with the product.
  • Change savvy with ability to adapt and respond to the ever-changing production schedule.
  • Ability to effectively function as a team member including addressing conflict constructively.
  • Quality oriented with ability to perform detailed, repetitive tasks.
  • Excessive exposure to heat, noise and vibration

  • Reaching- Below to above shoulder level
  • Lifting- Up to 33 lbs. periodically through the day

Ability to work overtime including weekends and alter hours as necessary, overtime may be required.
