Infojini, Inc. is seeking a travel nurse RN Med Surg for a travel nursing job in Macomb, Illinois.

Unit: Med/Surg
# Beds 16 beds
Nurse: Patient Ratios 1:4 (try not to go above this)
Required certifications (i.e., BLS, ACLS?) BLS, PALS
Common diagnoses/Types of patients Medical: respiratory (COPD, pneumonia), cellulitis, CHF
Surgical: colon resections, ortho (total hips, knees)
**low volume of peds won't assign traveler unless they are experienced
**outpatient infusions on this unit as well. travelers don't typically do this unless they are experienced
Experience or 'Must have' skills Prefer 3-5 years of experience due to being a rural hospital with fewer resources
Are RNs required to titrate drips? no
Common titratable &/or set-rate drips of heparin is rare
Are there tele/monitor techs on this unit? Are RNs required to read their own strips? What brand are the telemonitors? The majority of patients are on tele; nurses need to be able to monitor and read their own strips, unit secretaries are tele trained, nihon kohden
Charge Nurse/House Supervisor? Does the charge nurse take an assignment? Clinical care coordinator, Charge nurse- takes a patient assignment, house sup on weekends
Are there nurse aids on this unit / ratio 1 CNA
RT Equipment (i.e., Cpap, BiPap, High Flow, vents, etc.) hi-flow, vapotherm anything above that goes to ICU such as BiPAP
Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?) 7-730, the Manager does schedule 6 weeks at a time, and tries to work with the traveler's preference. (attempt to accommodate block schedule if needed)
Weekend Requirement every other or every 3rd, depending
Holiday Requirement none- can volunteer
Is there Call or a Standby requirement? none- can volunteer
Floating Requirements? float to be a safety sitter or helping hand
Scrub Color/Dress Code/Scrubs provided? Pewter top, black shoes, black socks, black pants- colored tops okay if top layer (scrub top or jacket is Pewter)
Unit/Department-specific orientation First week (3 shifts). First 12-hour day to get requirements done with Human Resources, Infection Control, required computer learning, and learn equipment with Staff Development, 4 hours to find things on the unit. Second orientation 12-hour shift with Staff Development and unit orientation. The third shift is on the floor with a preceptor.
Additional Notes a lot of turnover of patients - admits and discharges throughout the day. want travelers to feel like they are part of the team. Looking for candidates that want to make a difference. Strong focus on CHARTING hence the lower ratios
Additional Questions Please ask the traveler follow-up dates/times and put them on the prescreen form so Connie knows when a good time to call back is. She is having difficulty reaching the candidates.
