Job Summary


Central Washington University is recruiting an ARNP (Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner) to join our Student Health Services team in Ellensburg, Washington. This role is an important member of our team as they provide medical services for the University's students. The role is an 8-month cyclic campus-based position, which means you get to see the lives you are impacting. We're offering a salary, depending on experience, from $108,432 - $177,720 annually plus the awesome CWU benefits.

CWU provides its students with primary medical care through an on-campus medical clinic, which is staffed with board certified advanced nurse practitioners, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, a medical assistant, and a registered medical technologist. The facility maintains its own laboratory and x-ray services and provides supplies and equipment that allow for a wide range of general medical practice services. CWU Student Health Services is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Care (AAAHC). At least every three years, SHS commits to a thorough, on-site survey by AAAHC surveyors to assess our ongoing effort to continuously improve our care and services. The AAAHC Certificate of Accreditation is a sign that a health care organization meets or exceed nationally recognized Standards.

The Role:

This position provides acute, primary and preventative medical care to students at Central Washington University. This clinic is accredited through the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, Inc. within a multi-disciplinary team format. Newly graduated professionals are welcome. Provides medical care to patients that includes performing examinations, determining diagnoses, making referrals and planning/implementing treatment. These duties are provided within the scope of care under the state license as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner. This position takes direct responsibility for all health care provided, as there is no attending or supervising physician. All employees are expected to support CWU's commitment to diversity and to bring and support inclusion into the university environment.


Job Duties


Medical Provider Duties:
- Completes patient records including accurate medical history and physical exam. Documents work in Medicat (EMR).
- Examines patients and diagnosis their illnesses; recommends and administers routine treatment; refers patients when appropriate to other medical specialists.
- Establish a diagnosis and prescribe medications.
- Orders and/or performs diagnostic tests and evaluates results.
- Prescribes medication and/or treatments as indicated.
- Participate in quarterly peer review and quality improvement processes.
- Performs minor surgical procedures, including administration of local anesthesia.
- Performs orthopedic procedures for the purpose of examining injuries, ordering x-rays, interpreting results, casting and splinting and making referrals.
- Facilitates appropriate referrals to Student Counseling Services (SCS) staff.
- Communicates and collaborates with SCS staff regarding shared patients/clients, participates in Multi-Disciplinary Team Meetings.
- Maintains professional working relationships with co-workers, including Health & Wellness Division staff and other campus & community partners.
- Works collaboratively within the SHS medical team; attends and participates in SHS clinic and staff conferences/meetings.
- Participates fully in AAAHC accreditation process.
- Engages in active participation and leadership in SHS Quality Improvement Program.
- Maintains current licensure to practice, including timely completion of required continuing education and professional development opportunities.
- Engages in productive conflict resolution and problem-solving surrounding treatment planning, caseload, and scheduling.
- Schedules and provides departmental training, and precepts other staff, including clinician peers.
- Instructs, supervises, and consults with nurses, technicians and other SHS personnel in providing medical and nursing care services.
- Functions as a lead provider in directing patient care for nursing, lab and other medical personnel.
- Assists and provides training/education to other medical staff.
- Develops and prepares reports, needs assessments, and other quality of care studies at the request of the SHS Director and/or university leadership.
- Acts as a liaison with other community health/medical agencies and various CWU departments within Student Engagement & Success and university wide.
- Works with appropriate office staff to ensure medical insurance credentialing is current at all times.

Minimum Qualifications


  • Have current credentials that would allow candidate to obtain a valid Washington State license to practice as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner, and a valid Washington State license to practice as a Registered Nurse by start date.
  • Eligible for acceptance as required by the AAAHC accreditation requirements.
  • Current board certification by American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal problem-solving skills.
  • Unencumbered license status and eligible to practice in the State of Washington.
  • Current Healthcare Provider Basic CPR Certification.

  • Demonstrated willingness and/or experience working with students and/or co-workers from a wide range of abilities, backgrounds, and experiences.
  • Prior to employment, newly hired medical providers will be required to complete and meet eligibility for the National Practitioner Data Bank.
  • OR applicable combination of education and/or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience providing direct medical care in an ambulatory setting with diverse populations.
  • Experience working in a college or university health center.
  • Experience in the provision of health services to a college age population.
  • Experience in primary care in women's health and/or sexual health.
  • Experience working with a multidisciplinary team that includes behavioral health services.
  • Demonstrated participation in programs designed to promote inclusion.
  • A record of promoting inclusivity in the work environment.
  • Experience or interest in mentoring students from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Ability to incorporate multicultural perspectives and issues into everyday conversations.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule


Salary: This position is based on the range 80N of the Washington State Classification Listing, which has a minimum annual salary of $108,432 and maximum annual salary of $177,720. In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Schedule/Appointment: Monday - Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm (1 hour lunch) / 8-month cyclic appointment / Bargaining Unit 3 PSE

Working Conditions: Work will involve assisting patients who may need to be moved from standing to sitting or lying down, positioning patients for basic physical examinations. In emergencies, the person may be required to assist lifting and positioning for safety of patients and perform CPR. Work occurs in an integrated medical facility where potential exposure to blood borne pathogens and communicable diseases may occur. This individual will maintain appropriate immunizations and institute all standard medical safety precautions.
