Who we’re looking for

Toyota’s Production Engineering Battery department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Construction manager to work in the Battery group.

The responsibility of this role is to plan, manage, and develop the Battery PE Construction activity to complete Production Preparation successfully to meet business targets as well as strengthen Battery Construction overall through Hoshin activities and cross-functional activities.

Reporting to Senior Engineering Manager for TMNA Battery PE at TBMNC Location. The person in this role will support the Battery department's objective to execute Capital Projects from planning thru Start of Production (SOP).

Must be able to navigate complex problem solving at the regional / Global level. Successful candidate must be effective at identifying and removing barriers that hinder progress of the Seibi department.  Successful candidate must be effective at identifying and removing training gaps that will allow Construction Management department to become stronger and more sound in equipment installation. Candidate must decide, manage, and assign appropriate work priorities to direct reports. Candidate must develop and execute schedule for said priorities and report their status to senior management group.     

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead and participate in development activities for overall Battery Construction Management. Develop, monitor, and continuously improve standardization (i.e. shikumi, Job Safety Analysis, Denwacho, Safety Checks, training, etc), engage in communication across groups, training and technical skills gap with kaizen while emphasizing the Toyota Way.
  • Plan, monitor, and countermeasure projects to conform to manpower, schedule, Seibi struggles, and other KPIs for capital projects.
  • Engage and encourage team members to review skills and assist to continuously develop skills.
  • Support the cross-functional teams to pursue continuous improvement and cost-competitive activities through innovation.
  • Lead and resolve technical and organizational issues including external vendors, suppliers, and customers, all while achieving project KPIs at the Satellite office.

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a technical field or 5+ years equivalent professional experience in industrial construction management.
  • Experience in Production Preparation/Implementation for capital projects.
  • Experience in planning the installation of machines and processes related to a new production facility, such as bid packages and construction drawings related to equipment installation.
  • Management experience with responsibility for direct reports.
  • Experience managing and delegating multiple construction contractors (various trades) such as millwrights, ironworkers, pipefitters, electricians, and similar.
  • Experience with quality for installation of machines and processes related to new and modified production lines.
  • Experience with utility capacity planning such as Electrical loads, piping, etc.
  • Knowledge of drafting fundamentals for line layout drawings from concept to final version.
  • Ability to work weekends and shutdown work (such as July and December holidays) as needed.
  • Ability for business travel, both domestic and international, up to 25%.

Added bonus if you have

  • Trade certification(s) (current or past) such as Electrical License, Rigging Certification, HVAC, or similar.
  • Previous skilled trades experience such as Ironworker / Millwright / Electrician / Pipe Fitter / etc.
  • Working knowledge or exposure to Rigging safety and training.
  • Completion of OSHA 30.
  • Project Management experience with manpower planning, and job planning, including detailed schedule creation and completion.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD products, including the ability to read, interpret, and modify drawings.
  • Building Information Modeling (BIM) experience.
