Essential Duties, Responsibilities and Authorities

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Perform fundamental analytical work to support design and development activities for electronic components for products such as pressure calibrators, HART communicators, pipeline testing devices, and medical device diagnostic devices.
  • Participate in the development of analog and digital circuits for battery powered, handheld hardware platforms.
  • Document designs and changes and perform releases according to the Western process.
  • Participate in peer design reviews.
  • Participate on product design and development teams including Engineering, Manufacturing, Marketing, Materials, and Quality to produce cost effective, manufacturable, and technically sound designs to meet or exceed customer requirements.
  • Participate in the development and execution of qualification test plans including verification and validation testing to assure new products meet intended use, regulatory, and industry standards requirements.
  • Participate in program design teams to Interface with other functional areas (concurrent engineering) in product development.
  • Problem solving using basic tools including 8D, DMAIC, Design of Experiments, ANOVA, etc.
  • Participate on cost reduction projects in support of AOP objectives.
  • Serve as the sustaining engineer for current products in support of manufacturing operations and customer requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director or VP of Engineering.

Knowledge of:

Fundamental Electrical Engineering skills including: the design, prototyping, and validation of analog and digital circuits, layout of printed circuit boards, creating and maintain production documentation, organizing, planning, and prioritizing concurrent projects, selection and requisition of components and materials for R&D, prototyping, and/or pilot runs, ECAD tools for schematic capture & printed circuit board layout (Altium, OrCAD).

Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power point MS Project) – Required. Altium– desired.

Skills/Ability to:

Fundamental Engineering skills including: Structured Problem Solving, Verification and Validation, and Structured Experimental Design

Various hand tools (screw drivers, wrenches, etc.), Oscilloscope, Multimeter, Power Supply

Acceptable Experience or Training:

  1. BSEE or equivalent required.

  1. 1-5 years of relevant experience in an engineering role.

Individual must be able to manipulate all Western devices which may include rotation of small knobs or handles. Applicant must be able to handle and move loads of up to 50 lbs. Applicant must be able to generate tightening loads of up to 100 ft-lbs. Ability to work basic mechanical devices, such as screwdrivers or wrenches as required. Ability to perform lead free soldering operations for development. Individual must also be able to manipulate devices through access ports in environmental chamber. Domestic and International travel may be required.

Majority of the work is done at a desk in a typical office layout – cubicle and development laboratory. Testing is performed in an environmentally controlled lab. Safety glasses are required and hearing protection maybe occasionally required in the factory floor area. Some testing is conducted in a non-climate controlled hallway, where temperature variations (hot and cold) occur. Some testing conducted in a separate metal building that is climate controlled but requires additional safety measures due to the presence of high pressure O2.
