JOB OVERVIEW:

Under general supervision maintains, repairs and overhauls plant equipment and facility assets as directed. The Facilities Mechanic is responsible for executing daily activities that supports all plant facilities areas. This position performs a wide range of facilities maintenance support under general supervision including but limited to mechanical, plumbing, utilities and other project support.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Promotes a safety-first environment while following and enforcing all safety rules throughout the facility.

  • Executes work in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulatory requirements involving food safety and GMPs.

  • Executes assigned maintenance work orders including Preventative and Corrective Maintenance.

  • Utilizes the CMMS system to request, complete and document work.

  • Performs a wide variety of mechanical maintenance and repair of equipment and machinery using a variety of hand, gas, and electrical power tools.

  • Position requires knowledge of various industrial production equipment and components used in an industrial plant environment such as roasters, dryers, roll stock packaging machines, case packers, can fillers, seamers, labelers, electronic sorting machines, metal detectors, programmable logic controllers, etc.

  • Position requires functional knowledge of various industrial support equipment used in an industrial plant environment such as boilers, chillers, cooling towers, air handlers, air compressors, waste water systems, etc.

  • Engages in the welding and fabrication of parts as required.

  • Assembles and reassembles equipment; examines and tests mechanisms. Inspects and calibrates instrumentation.

  • Participates in machinery troubleshooting.

  • Interprets technical documents (prints, manuals) as required.

  • Ability to communicate and escalate as necessary to management.

  • Must follow all Blue Diamond Safety and Food Safety policies and procedures. (i.e., LOTO, Hot Work Permit, ect.).

  • Other duties and responsibilities as required or assigned.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum level of education required.

  • High School Diploma or GED

Minimum number of year(s) of experience required in addition to education plus type(s) of functional experience.

  • 5 years

Other required type(s) of functional experience (e.g., Production/Operations, Accounting, Forklift Operator, Inventory Control, etc.)

  • Skilled in fabricating items using a welder and sheet metal.

  • Experience interpreting and acting on written and verbal job instructions and reports, technical manuals, and data.

  • Knowledge of general maintenance activities and procedures

  • Experience operating company vehicles and equipment such as (e.g., forklift, man-lift, crane, etc.)

  • Must demonstrate the mechanical and relationship skills necessary to work on sophisticated production equipment. Requires knowledge of company specific machinery and equipment, and pneumatic/hydraulic systems.

  • Current welding certificate required.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain forklift certification.

  • Must have own tools to efficiently perform job.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES (Specialized education, specific software experience, etc.)

  • Experience working with automation equipment.

  • Experience determining causes of machine downtime, poor quality or performance.

  • Experience installing support equipment, machines, hoses, basic wiring, and lubrication.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will frequently be required to communicate with others and regularly climb stairs. On shift employee is constantly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The position involves sitting, walking, and lifting less than 10 pounds for long periods of time throughout the day.
