What Supply Chain Purchasing contributes to Cardinal Health

Supply Chain Purchasing is responsible for ensuring the right quantity of materials arrive in the right place, at the right time and cost. This job family is accountable for the design and execution of operational supply chain (operations, purchasing, inventory planning, collaborative with warehouse receiving, logistics, quality and finance), and implementation of the supply chain network. Supply Chain Purchasing utilize supplier contracts and manufacturing parameters to exceed customer service level commitments while optimizing supply chain costs and inventory aligned with business objectives. Supply Chain Purchasing leverages technology to achieve best in class processes to position supply chain as a competitive advantage.

  • Manages the overall materials management in the supply chain purchasing organization for Presource Medical Products focused on supporting manufacturing plants.
  • The role supports operations and the overall business by planning and purchasing materials and managing inventory levels which are necessary to drive targeted customer service levels and business objectives.
  • Duties also include and limited to strategic projects identified to improve the materials supply chain including planning optimization, implementation of new IT solutions, acquisition/integration support, S&OP and key process improvements all aimed at driving optimal customer service levels and business performance.
  • Key areas of focus in this role are ensuring the correct requirements are communicated to the material vendors.
  • Additional responsibilities include managing inventory investment considering required customer service levels, direct support of supply reviews performed as part of the S&OP process, advising the commercial organization on customer contract development, managing customer requirements and business metrics (KPIs).
  • The Manager will lead a team of experienced buyers and will be responsible for development and training of the team.

Responsibilities

  • Assure Supplier Performance to maintain delivery performance standards, quality standards, and implement cost saving projects.
  • Develops processes and procedures to implement functional strategies
  • Has accountability for managing financial resources Budget & Purchase Orders
  • Coordination with manufacturing operations, planning, sourcing, marketing and other areas of the unit to ensure optimal service for internal and external customers
  • Proactively communicate service risk while maintaining strong coordination with other internal stakeholders. Take the lead on development of recovery plans
  • Recommend and implement materials supply chain improvements aimed at improving financial and service level improvements.
  • Manage governance and business rules around the E-Segment Process (controls whether or not a component is restricted from quoting in Presource kits), advise the commercial organization on this process
  • Support the Component Resiliency Strategy, a joint venture with procurement operations and marketing to improve component supply availability and mitigate component supply risk
  • Manage the component sample strategy for kit sales samples.
  • Build and develop a high performing and diverse team through coaching, mentoring and continuous skills development to maximize talent potential and effectiveness
  • Develop strategic plans to improve productivity, quality, cost and efficiencies of the planning process across all operations
  • Work cross functionally with other departments including operations, sourcing, regulatory affairs, quality, procurement, process enablement, global trade, logistics, S&OP, analytics, inventory planning, demand planning, OPEX, marketing and sales to ensure consistent, cost-effective supply of products to support customer demand
  • Coordination with suppliers, operations, procurement, sourcing, and other areas of the unit to ensure optimal service for internal customers
  • Develop tools, methods and rules used to support and improve the purchasing process
  • Coordinate and communicate action plans with stakeholders in planning and operations
  • Recommend and implement planning and supply chain improvements aimed at improving financial and service level commitments.
  • Attend and Participate in site operation reviews on site at plant locations, strategic contract manufacturers and commercial business reviews
  • Ownership of service and inventory levels for products planned within the organization.
  • Conduct deep dives into areas where service level is below target and develop solutions to drive improvements
  • Direct support of the supply reviews, supply roll up and integrated business reviews as a key process within S&OP

Qualifications

  • 8+ years related experience in supply chain purchasing (Medical Device purchasing experience is highly preferred).
  • BA, BS or equivalent experience in related field.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish to communicate effectively with US and MEX facilities and suppliers across the globe.
  • Demonstrated results in progressive positions of responsibility and direct experience in successfully managing a centralized function in a decentralized organization.
  • Familiar with contracts and product development programs and procedures related to medical products and services.
  • Proficient in developing people and leading teams required. The leader must be proactive, a multitasker and hands on persona with the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Advance Excel) as well as strong experience with Business Manufacturing software applications such as PRMS, SAP or JDE with expertise in MRP.
  • Solid statistical analysis skills.
  • Have strong presentation skills
