Job Description

Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Machine Shop Estimator with at least 5 years of experience in a
machining or manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate must have a strong understanding of
blueprint reading, CAD/CAM software (Mastercam or Gibbs), and a thorough knowledge of
machining processes and materials.

Key Responsibilities:
 

  • Analyze customer RFQs (Requests for Quotations) and engineering drawings to determine the scope of work, materials, labor, and equipment requirements.
  • Use CAD/CAM software (Mastercam or Gibbs) to develop accurate cost estimates for machining projects.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to ensure feasibility and optimize manufacturing processes.
  • Prepare detailed quotations and proposals for customers, including cost breakdowns, lead times, and terms.
  • Maintain and update estimation databases and software tools to ensure accurate costing and pricing.
  • Communicate with customers to clarify project requirements, address questions, and provide technical support.
  • Track and analyze project costs, making recommendations for cost-saving measures when appropriate.
  • Participate in meetings and discussions with internal and external stakeholders to support project planning and execution.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, new materials, and machining technologies.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • At least 5 years of experience in a machine shop or manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM software, specifically Mastercam or Gibbs.
  • Strong understanding of machining processes, materials, tooling, and production planning.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Education and Certifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate degree or technical certification in a related field is preferred.
  • Additional certifications in CAD/CAM software or machining are a plus.
