Applicants must possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution along with a certificate in mechanical engineering (BSME). They should also have practical experience in designing high-speed automation machinery, specifically focusing on mechanical and pneumatic aspects.

The role of the Mechanical Design Engineer involves designing and developing the mechanics of high-speed, automated packaging equipment throughout North America. This includes working with existing designs or combining various designs to optimize performance while minimizing costs. The engineer will be responsible for ensuring projects are completed on time and meet specifications, as well as creating working drawings and bills of materials for standard manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities:

Create designs for components and subassemblies used in high-speed, automated packaging machinery.

Develop mechanical layouts, source components, and generate bills of materials.

Collaborate with project managers, manufacturing teams, supply chain professionals, and electrical engineers to ensure projects meet specifications.

Establish relationships with customer-facing organizations, vendors, and suppliers.

Prepare budgets, schedules, and provide education and training.

Analyze root causes, diagnose issues, and troubleshoot equipment.

Maintain a safe and positive work environment.

Lead development projects by guiding and influencing cross-functional teams.

Manage subcontractors to ensure their work meets design requirements and project timelines.

Support with Machine Production and Installation:

Assist Technical Sales managers with platform production projects.
Address questions, troubleshoot problems, and provide studies and estimates.
Find cost-effective solutions for issues affecting customer products, while preserving the integrity of the designs.
Maintain relationships with customers, suppliers, and vendor representatives.

Key Performance Indicators:

Achieve company objectives.
Meet customer expectations for machinery.
Create effective machinery designs.
Ensure effective communication through detailed drawings.
Ensure accuracy in machinery designs, detail drawings, and calculations.
Provide complete and accurate bills of materials.
Meet deadlines for design completion.
Develop cost reduction designs effectively.
Deliver quality workmanship.

Background requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (BSME) from an ABET accredited program – Required.

3+ years of experience in mechanical and pneumatic designing of high-speed, automated machinery – Required.

Experience working with linear actuators, servo motors, and gearboxes.

General understanding of ASME Y14.5 and GD&T.

Experience in a manufacturing environment with a high-mix, low-volume production.

Packaging Machinery Equipment experience is a plus.

Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.

Practical experience with CAD software, PLM systems, and engineering change management. Preferred software includes PTC Pro E / Creo / Windchill, AutoCAD.

Working knowledge of MS Office Suite - Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills.

Excellent motivational skills and ability to multitask.

10% travel required, including international travel to our sister plant in France.
