Job Summary:

This CNC/CAM Engineer (NPI) position is an important member of our programming and engineering team supporting production of precision aerospace components. Dedicated to the New Product Introduction (NPI) team, this role acts as a center of excellence between Engineering and Manufacturing (Operations) teams. As the CNC/CAM Engineer you will focus on the process development and programming of CNC equipment including multi-axis lathes, Swiss screw machines, vertical machining centers, and grinders. You will split time between programming in a CAM (Computer Aid Manufacturing) environment and performing hands-on set-up on the production floor.

Major Areas of Responsibility:

  • Utilizing ESPIRT CAM software, develop CNC programs (g-code) that optimizes the best manufacturing methods to produces precision and ultra-precision components. Work within the Engineering & Manufacturing teams to develop manufacturing processes, preferred tooling & work-holding, in-process deburring and metrology that will become the approved work instructions to Production team.
  • Set-up and operate production equipment during the initial development and debug of new programs, ensuring manufacturing readiness.
  • Determine ideal set-up, tool paths, material removal rates, finish, and yield.
  • Train production personnel for smooth transition to ensure reproducibility in mass production.
  • Serve as in-house subject matter expert, participating in lean events to optimize existing released products that can reduce set-up, reduce machine time, or otherwise improve productivity and quality.
  • Develop standards in ESPIRT for tooling, inserts, and material libraries.
  • Manage programs and machine & tool set-up data within the company’s product data management (PDM) and Distributed Numerical Control (DNC) systems.
  • Leverage parametric programming, macros, and CAM software to optimize programs across a family of parts where applicable.
  • Stay in touch with the latest manufacturing technology through the research of equipment, software, tooling, and gaging systems.
  • Make recommendations on productivity improvements related to technology investments.
  • Support our cost estimating processes by developing and simulating manufacturing processes.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, manufacturing or industrial disciplines preferred.
    1. Progressive on the job experience commensurate with a degree considered.
  • Five or more years of advanced manufacturing experience, preferably in a precision or ultra-precision machining environment.
  • Established network working directly with machine tool manufacturers, work holding manufacturers, and tooling manufactures, to leverage their application engineering teams and technical support. Examples: Marubeni Citizen, Eurotech, Method Machine Tool, Kennametal, ISCAR, Sandvik, Sumitomo, etc.
  • Expert knowledge of CNC programming such as Fanuc, Mitsubishi, and Okuma controls, using advanced programming techniques such as parametric programming, macros and multi-tasking.
  • Frequent user of CAM software programs. ESPIRT is preferred. Others such as Mastercam, PartMaker, Fusion, NX, or SolidCAM as acceptable
  • Familiarity with manufacturing enterprise software – experience with EPCIOR or similar is bonus.
  • Strong knowledge of work-holding, tooling systems and set-up of CNC machines.
