Operates and monitors company plants and facilities, typically Upstream facilities after primary separation and processing (such as gas and co-gen plants) and Downstream & Chemical refineries and plants. Monitors process variables, troubleshoots, and performs interventions to maintain operating performance.

Performs routine assignments under general supervision.  Gaining knowledge of work procedures and practices.  

Chevron is accepting online applications for the position of Refinery Operator Trainee located in Salt Lake City, Utah through May 30th, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. (Mountain Standard Time).

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Successful completion of 3-year Formal Operator Training Program to gain the skills required to become a Fully Qualified Operator. This includes Operator fundamentals training, plant-specific training, and qualification, refresher/compliance training, etc.
  • Operates, monitors, and troubleshoots industrial-scale furnaces, pumps, compressors, valves, and other mechanical equipment used in refining crude oil into finished products.
  • Performs other assigned duties such as maintenance repairs, equipment lock-out/tag-out, laboratory samples, training, and emergency response.
  • Demonstrates ability to effectively solve problems. Able to grasp complex issues and apply good problem-solving skills to develop and implement recommendations/solutions. Effectively troubleshoots and resolves equipment and process malfunctions.
  • Establishes positive working relationships. Works closely within a team and with other departments to set priorities, coordinate, and follow up on business objectives.
  • Displays a thorough understanding of, and commitment to, refinery policies and procedures.
  • Ability to learn and demonstrate in-depth knowledge of assigned processing plants and can relate it to others effectively.
  • Responds and follows up on requests quickly and efficiently. Gives and receives feedback to monitor and address concerns.
  • Removes barriers and considers alternative approaches to arrive at workable solutions.
  • Actively looks for opportunities to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Ability to effectively utilize computers, mobile devices, and other digital tools.
  • Must be able to work independently, take initiative, and act on opportunities. Ability to plan and organize own work. Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing priorities and assignments.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Candidate must have two years of any type of work experience. Military experience is counted as work experience.
  • Must be able to work a rotating schedule (12-hour shift “DuPont schedule” including night shifts, weekends, and holidays) to support a 24-7-365 operations facility.
  • Must be able to work additional and unscheduled overtime as required.
  • This is a safety-sensitive position. Candidates must demonstrate a personal commitment to safety and be able to safely function in an outdoor industrial environment in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including; full-body coveralls, protective footwear, hard hats, hearing protection, eye protection, full-face respirators, and/or self-contained breathing apparatus.
  • Must be able to work at heights with appropriate fall protection, climb, crawl, and work in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to qualify for a TWIC card within 2 months of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous operating, refinery, or industrial experience
  • Associate/Technical Degree from a Process Technology Program.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills are critical.

Relocation will not be considered.

Expatriate assignments will not be considered.
