Job Summary

The Quality Manager is responsible for all aspects of the organization's total quality function and driving the internal, Supplier, and Customer quality processes while leading continuous improvement activities following Zurn Elkay Business System (ZEBS), Lean Six Sigma and Quality Management principles. Quality Manager will develop, monitor and advise on the performance of the quality management system in manufacturing and office environments. As a member of the Site Leadership Team will lead the organizations efforts and passion about pursuing zero defects and promoting the practices to achieve the best processes leading the Manufacturing, Engineering and Quality teams towards world class manufacturing, while considering the customer, associates, and use of the Zurn Elkay Business System.

The Quality Manager ensures the implementation, proper execution and maintenance of quality control plans and procedures, as well as ensuring that the activities of continuous improvement are implemented and monitored through proper indicators of internal and external quality, and also responsible for the quality of the manufacturing measurement systems, the fulfillment of customer specific requirement applicable to Engineering and Operations, and also that new products and processes are properly implemented prior to the release to manufacturing. Will use leadership experience to coach and train associates on the methodologies, philosophy, and tools of the Zurn Elkay Business System so that they are understood, implemented, and applied by Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering and Customer Service functions.

This position will reside in either Norcross, GA or Erie, PA, and requires up to 25% travel. The Quality Manager will support initiatives at the following operational sites:

  • Norcross, GA

  • Erie, PA

  • Caddo Mills, TX

  • Commerce, TX

Key Accountabilities
  • Responsible for the development, implementation, management and maintenance of the quality system and regulatory compliance in alignment with internal and external quality standards

  • Lead business unit quality management team to ensure successful quality management systems implementation and engagement across all sites.

  • Drive quality standards throughout organization and serve as the advocate and voice of quality throughout the business creating a common culture of quality through communication, training and cross functional engagement.

  • Ensure robust systems for inbound, in process and outbound inspections preventing escapes and driving issues back to root cause resolution.

  • Work in collaboration with Zurn NPD / VA-VE / Sourcing teams to complete PPAP requirements, partner in supplier quality improvement projects and resolve supplier quality issues.

  • Serve as business point of contact for third party quality standard compliance and drive a system of readiness in all sites for audits. Provide onsite support in preparation for and during all audits.

  • Champion development and launch of integrated QMS platform to capture information, facilitate analytics, and drive process improvement.

  • Leverage quality data and VOC to drive analytics, root cause identification and corrective actions in order achieve best in class Internal and External DPMO and Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ)

  • Drive and oversee a robust system for quality tool calibration compliance.

  • Analyzes current processes, develops tactics, metrics and scorecards, and institutes data-driven process improvements which will link Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering and Customer Service objectives and goals worldwide.

Qualifications/Requirements
  • BS in Manufacturing, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering required.

  • 6+ years of proven experience implementing and managing quality systems and teams.

  • 2-4 years of supplier quality experience including new supplier onboarding through the PPAP process, problem resolution in collaboration with the supplier and ensuring adherence to quality standards. International experience a plus.

  • Experience leading a ISO 9001, QS9000, AS9100 or ISO/TS 16949 based Quality Management System (QMS) in a high-mix, assembly operation. Experience or exposure to IAPMO, NFS, and/or CSA standards a plus.

  • Extremely strong leadership skills including presentation, project management, problem solving, multi-tasking, influencing, and verbal/written communication skills a must.

  • Demonstrated experience analyzing data using spreadsheet applications, Microsoft Access, and/or Minitab and leveraging data to drive fact-based decision making and process improvement.

  • Lean and/or Six Sigma experience required. Green or Black Belt certification a plus.

  • Cast metals (casting, forging or machining) and plastic molding experience a plus.

  • ASQ certified auditor, a plus.
