What we are looking for:
We are seeking an Estimator with experience in the Heavy Highway / Heavy Civil industry with a focus and project costs, approach to means and methods and innovative ideas for winning bids.
This is a great opportunity for a project manager or a project engineer to transition into the estimating or pricing field, empowering them to leverage their past expertise in pursuing high-ranking proposals for the organization.

Position Summary: Gather, calculate, compile data, and produce construction cost estimates for public and private bid proposals.
Expected Outcomes:
- Complete cost estimates for assigned component work scopes on small to large construction projects
- Assigned tasks are completed on time, in a professional and organized manner
- Calculations are accurate, and consider standard specifications, special project provisions, and project drawings
- Positive Company image is made with clients, potential clients, vendors and subcontractors
- Good working relationships with internal staff, subcontractors, vendors, client representatives, etc. maintaining ethical standards
- Independent and highly motivated individual with a Teamwork attitude a must
What you will do:
- Reviews proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate
- Attend Pre-bids
- Visit Project sites
- Prepares quantity take-offs
- Contribute to Means and Method discussions to develop innovation solutions to construction plans
- Develop sequences and stages for construction plans
- Develop schedule time frames for construction
- Prepare layouts drawings for critical operations
- Identify and assess project risks
- Produce detailed cost estimates in HCSS system
- Solicit subcontractors and suppliers for quotations
- Maintains database with current contact information for subcontractors and vendors
- Evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations, enter in HCSS system
- Supports other department personnel as required
- Visits project sites to observe construction methods
- Updates skills for software tools and technology utilized
- Participates in bid review meetings with internal and joint venture staff
- Communicates and reinforces the Company vision, values and goals
- Performs additional assignments per supervisor’s direction
- Organization, accuracy, consistency and out of the box thinking
Essential skills and experience:
- 4-year engineering degree or equivalent combinations technical training and/or experience
- Advanced math and computer skills
- 5 or more years construction field experience or 5 or more years estimating experience
- Ability to read drawings and interpret specifications and incorporate their requirements into quantitative data.
- Knowledge of assigned discipline, estimating techniques and cost control
- Ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems
- Utilize Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for creating and delivering project-related communications.
- Software experience a plus including HCSS Heavy Bid, Oracle P6, Bluebeam, Smartbid, Agtek, AutoCAS
