Category Manager (Automation & Control)

Job Description

  • Building and executing category strategy
  • Guidance and management of Supplier Managers and Portfolio Managers supporting the category
  • Lead and oversee the development and execution of strategic supplier business plans
  • Supporting and challenging sales and profit influencing functions
  • Utilizing digital tools and analytics to drive high performance in sales growth targets, new customer acquisition, and implementing strategy to gain market share for existing suppliers
  • Efficiently launch new suppliers, through their team, that add value to the customer and re-enforce the Allied long-term strategy
  • Working with Supply Chain to maximize availability of product portfolio, focusing on reduction of bad and excess inventory and product provision at a category level.
  • Working closely with Supplier Marketing, Content and Data functions to ensure pace and product visibility is best in class.
  • Assume ownership of cross-functional/team initiatives and processes to continuously develop category performance
  • Team leadership, talent development, evaluation and assessment

About the roleThe Category Manager will be a driving force to build and grow their assigned category through the addition of new suppliers and the expansion of the offer with current suppliers in this space. The Automation & Control category includes PLC’s, HMI’s, Contactors, Starters, and Circuit Breaker products. They will develop and grow the product offering within the category through delivery of the best in class offer for our customers thereby meeting sales revenue, gross margin growth, and profit targets. Performance metrics will include:

  • Ability to successfully manage a team that achieves growth objectives and drives new business opportunities
  • Set goals for each individual based on the following criteria
    • Selecting products to be added to the product offer, stocked and non-stocked, in terms of traffic and revenue generated
    • Revenue generated and attachment rate of products selected to be stocked
    • Product category growth including margin and sales generation.
    • Planning and execution of business plans and activities that will drive growth
  • Drive the team to develop and maintain strong business relationships with current suppliers and identify and pursue potential new suppliers that will profitably expand their category offering
  • Collaborate with other Category Managers to create and maintain consistent processes across the teams
  • Develop into category experts that understand the industry trends and competitive landscape

What we’re looking for

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Require five years of Industrial distribution experience in similar role with a successful track record in product/category management or related role.
  • Strong collaboration skills, positive and forward looking.
  • Strategic thinking, ambitious, growth focused.
  • Comfortable handling complex scenarios and relationships where conflicting priorities or KPIs must be negotiated.
  • Must have proficient level of skill in Microsoft word, excel and power point

Desired:

  • Experience leading and managing a team
  • Experience within the Automation & Control Industry
