Job Description

The Conventional Machinist operates the tooling manufacturing resources, monitoring the quality of the fixtures produced. The position builds tooling and will operate production resources as needed. The Conventional Machinist participates as a member of the manufacturing and tooling team, providing input on new processes and process improvements for the tooling design. The Conventional Machinist may provide training and guidance to lower level machinist employees.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensures scheduled resource is operating in a safe manner, following all safety protocols
  • Operates the tooling manufacturing resources, monitoring the quality of the fixtures manufactured
  • Provide input on building tooling support of new manufacturing processes and troubled manufacturing processes as required to ensure customer product meets or exceeds all requirements
  • Builds tooling and on occasion operates the production of scheduled manufacturing resources, monitoring the quality of product and tooling manufactured
  • Ensures the schedule cycle time to manufacture a tool or fixture versus actual time taken to manufacture a tool or fixture is under set cycle time or meets scheduled cycle times
  • Ensure cutters use in manufacturing the product of sharp and cutting correctly and makes certain that cutters are changed out before cutting life expires
  • Continually keeps assigned work area and resources clean and organized
  • Works as a team member, meeting professional standards of cooperation, communication, and appearance
  • Provides occasional guidance, coaching, and training to lower level machinist employees
Required Skills
  • Experienced and fluent at using hand held quality control inspection tools such as micrometers, calipers, bore gages, depth gages, radius gages, height gages, and sine plates
  • Knowledgeable in trigonometry and with understanding of the formulas for calculating set speeds and feeds used in operating conventional mills and/or lathes
  • Fluent in interpreting aerospace blueprints, parts lists, and assembly drawings
  • Solid understanding of manipulating formulas used in manufacturing assigned tooling and fixtures
  • Skilled in the set-up and operations of conventional lathes and mills in a safe and productive manner
  • Self-motivated with an ability to work alone or in a team environment
  • Work across departments to meet product quality standards efficiently
  • Follow instructions given by the director of manufacturing, their immediate manager, or lead, or by a senior machinist and carry them out correctly
  • Interpret the instructions given and apply experience and training throughout the course of the day for each production job assigned
  • Read and comprehend basic instructions and write simple correspondence
Required Experience
Level 2 or 3 Machinist Preferred

Level of Education
High school diploma or equivalent education
Two year machinist certificate preferred

Shift: Mon-Thurs, 5:00am-3:30pm

This position requires use of information or access to production processes subject to national security controls under U.S. export control laws and regulations (including, but not limited to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR)). To be qualified to work in this facility, a successful application must be a U.S. Person, as defined in those regulations, and able to supply evidence of that qualification prior to starting work. The U.S. export control regulations define a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), and certain categories of Political Asylees and Refugees.

For informational purposes only, this role is eligible to participate in the Company's Quarterly Cash Bonus Plan, paid out at the quarterly bonus factor of 1X the Company's bonus multiple, based on the Company's performance in the applicable quarter .
