LOCATION: Brainerd, MN

Today, Sheridan MN offers a complete book solution that encompasses printing and binding, fulfillment, eBook conversion, eCommerce solutions, and more—all in-house, all at competitive prices.

Job Summary:

Responsible for operating large bindery equipment within predetermined time frames.  Direct and lead team members to produce books cost effectively and quality processes according to customer guidelines.  Learn to setup, run, and maintain bindery equipment as assigned, including Kolbus Perfect Binder, and KM-600 Perfect Binder. 

Duties/Responsibilities:  

  • Set up, operate, and tend perfect binders (Kolbus and KM600), and/or other equipment as needed. 
  • Read and understand work order verifying correct bind type, bulk, trim size, margins and run lengths.
  • Learn to interpret the information on the work order and its contents.
  • Follow daily running order provided by Scheduling Team.
  • Communicate with Supervisor and Scheduling Team as needed.
  • Set up machine and perform quality case making that meets expectations.
  • Maintain high throughput by performing quick and efficient make-readies and job changeovers.
  • Inspect for quality defects ensuring quality standards are achieved.
  • Maintain accurate data collections.
  • Understand substrates, bulk, sig size, trim size, and specified margins.
  • Oversee all segments of binding operation.
  • Be sure all waste is disposed of properly.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, general cleaning and upkeep of machine and auxiliary equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and perform minor repairs to machine and auxiliary equipment.
  • Assist maintenance personnel with machine repair.
  • Exercise initiative, ask questions and look for ways of improving productivity.
  • Keep area safe and clean.
  • Adequately communicate with oncoming shift
  • Perform end of shift duties leaving area ready for oncoming shift.
  • Assist training new operators and employees.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work overtime and other shifts required. 
  • Prompt and reliable attendance required. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two (2) years or more of manufacturing experience on similar equipment
  • Knowledge/understanding of basic math, fractions and decimals
  • Ability to read a ruler and understand/use metric system
  • Knowledge of production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods. 
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. 
  • Ability to consistently and effectively work independently with little or no direction and follow up to complete assignments required. 
  • Ability to demonstrate practical and technical knowledge of the job including an understanding of work instructions, processes, equipment, and materials to perform the job required. 
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work overtime and other shifts required. 
  • Prompt and reliable attendance required. 

Physical Requirements:

Work is performed in a factory environment with regular exposure to dust, dirt, noise, and the physical hazards of machinery, plus some exposure to fumes, oils, lubricants, and chemicals 

  • Prolonged periods of standing, bending, lifting, pushing and pulling
  • Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds at times
  • Willing to work all shifts
  • Safety toe shoes required
  • Hearing protection required

Hours:

3rd shift – Monday to Friday:  11 PM – 7 AM

Shift Differential of $1.00/hour
