The Materials Assistant is a support function to the Materials Department, including Scheduling, Shipping, and Purchasing. This position assists in the production scheduling process, shipping process, and the buying of indirect materials, and interacts with Customer Service, Inventory Control, and the Shift Supervisors.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Serve as back-up scheduler with the ability to manage all order processing to Production, including customer sales orders, distribution center demand, and customer consignment programs
  • Assist in Change Order processing from Customer Service
  • Responsible for the purchasing of indirect materials to support the business needs
  • Manage the daily order reconciliation process to ensure shipping accuracy and completeness
  • Create Made To Order production cards when needed
  • Regularly review and manage MTO cards in production to ensure no duplicate orders
  • Coordinate shipments from the distribution centers to support business inventory objectives
  • Support New Product Development and Continuous Improvement initiatives
  • Reduce slow or obsolete inventory on the production floor
  • Support in the management and maintenance of Quality Business System documents and processes
  • Support the annual physical inventory

EDUCATION:

  • Associate's degree preferred

MANAGEMENT:

  • No positions report to this position.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2+ years of operations experience in a fast-paced, high-volume manufacturing environment. Must have experience with Lean Manufacturing concepts. Experience interacting with customer service, order management, materials management and production is a plus.
  • Must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and be comfortable managing multiple tasks.
  • Must have experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Good communication and people skills are required. Excellent planning skills and organizational skills are essential. Experience with manufacturing processes is preferred.

*PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Works in an office environment.
  • Will have regular exposure to the plant floor.
  • Ability to move throughout the plant and office areas.
  • Alternates between sitting, standing, and moving within the work area.
  • Other demands include but not limited to oral, written, and presentation/communications skills.
