Salary Range: Up to $72,000/Annualized, commensurate with education, experience and qualifications.

Essential Functions

Function: The CyManII Process Engineer is responsible for supporting the Cyber4Manufacturing Hub, C4M, by maintaining compliance with UTSA laboratory safety standards, assisting with assembly and installation of manufacturing floor machinery and equipment, standardizing operational procedures, and maintaining all assets through rigorous preventive maintenance planning and implementation. Additionally, the incumbent will create all training materials and serve as a trainer of trainers.

Scope: The Process Engineer will work with the Institute's subject matter experts to identify and translate emerging innovations suitable for dissemination. Additionally, a general knowledge of the technical areas of cybersecurity, advanced manufacturing and/or instrumentation and control systems is a plus as the Process Engineer will also work with various SMEs in the industry.

Core Responsibilities
  1. Supports the Engineering Manager in the planning and preparation of the facilities to receive new equipment into the facility.
  2. Responsible for the generation and implementation of safety procedures and standards for all the equipment operated in the facility.
  3. Supports in the proper installation of equipment as per the vendor specifications, such as installation qualification.
  4. Responsible for developing all the equipment operation visual work instructions - operation qualification.
  5. Responsible for training on safety and operational visual work instructions to our interns.
  6. Trains the trainer role-engineering qualification.
  7. Collaborate with the engineering manager in the development and coaching of our interns in manufacturing visits in and outside of the facility.
  8. Responsible for maintaining the UTSA standards compliance requirements for machine centers & laboratory spaces.
  9. Responsible for the replenishment of all consumables and spare parts for the machinery part of the facility.
  10. Supports the implementation of preventive maintenance plans for every equipment and machine part of the facility.
  11. Responsible for performing and/or coordinating the preventive maintenance plans for each machine and equipment at the facility.
  12. Responsible for designing and installing all the jigs and fixtures needed to perform operations as per established standards at the facility.
  13. Assist other education and workforce development Initiatives, as appropriate.
  14. Supports in coordinating all the visits, demos, and events within the facility.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or another related field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working in the manufacturing sector.
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Collaborative, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • U.S. Citizenship (due to federal requirements).
  • Manufacturing and automation equipment experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in a STEM field.
  • Excellent bi-lingual (English/Spanish) written and verbal skills.
  • Experience working with the advanced manufacturing industry, cybersecurity, and engineering disciplines.
  • Experience in industry-related instruction or training.

  • This is a grant-funded position, which may be extended or shortened based upon availability of grant funds and/or work.

Working Conditions

Working Environment:
  • Air-conditioned warehouse and office building.
  • Occasional evening and weekend hours; Mobile Training Unit Operation.
  • Requires use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer, and calculator.
  • Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions, or other business-related events.

Physical Demands:
  • Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary, if walking and standing are required, only occasionally.
  • Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally.




This position will be primarily located on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.
