Vaco is hiring for a Distribution Center Manager located in Pierre, SD.
Function
The Distribution Center Manager will oversee day-to-day operations for the Pierre Distribution Center. including staffing, organize, and direct operations within the Distribution Center to effectively manage the receipt, storage, selection, packaging, loading, and shipping of products and internal transfers to the retail store locations and distribution centers located in 4 states.

Organizational Relationships
  1. The Distribution Center Manager reports to the Director of Distribution and Supply Chain.
  2. The Distribution Center Manager has supervisory authority for all non-exempt Distribution Center employees.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  1. Responsible for the receiving, storage, splitting, picking, and shipping operations of the D.C.
  2. Controls costs through productivity of personnel, efficient utilization of storage space, and proper protection of stored materials.
  3. Recommends D.C. and material handling needs and replacement to the Director of Distribution and Supply Chain.
  4. Partner with transportation contractor and dispatchers to coordinate, identify and resolve delivery and scheduling problems through timely communication with stores and drivers.
  5. Responsible for enforcing Company policies of conduct and safety and initiating corrective action where necessary.
  6. Develops and implements company and department SOPs, tracks, meets / exceeds department KPIs to ensure continuous improvement in all aspects of the operation.
  7. Develops and maintains relationships with carriers and vendors to assure quality carrier service that delivers products to the stores in an effective, efficient, and economical manner.
  8. Manages the overall security and loss prevention processes at the D.C. Identifies the causes of product losses and takes appropriate corrective action.
  9. Responsible for the overall safety and welfare of the D.C. facility and staff by addressing both physical safety issues and create a culture of safety awareness for the distribution center
  10. Strong understanding and acceptance of responsibility for compliance of OSHA, and other state and federal laws and regulations.
  11. Partners with store personnel, merchants, buying staff, and district managers in effective utilization of D.C. resources. Ensures that the correct items are stocked, rotated, and distributed to our stores in the most efficient and cost-effective manner and that all D.C. activities are properly documented.
  12. Analyzes current procedures and new ideas to continuously improve productivity and efficiencies.
  13. Utilize Lean and Six Sigma concepts to eliminate waste and improve performance and workplace organization.
  14. Selects, develops, trains, and motivates D.C. staff.
  15. Coach, teach and mentor subordinates through development plans and regularly scheduled performance discussions and annual performance reviews.
  16. Responsible for all grounds, building, and equipment maintenance.
  17. Work directly with the Director of Distribution and Supply Chain to effectively carry out all duties.

Other Duties
  1. Additional duties and tasks as assigned by the Director of Distribution
  2. Up to 15% travel

Mental and Physical Requirements
  1. Computer skills required
  2. Frequent lifting up to 50 pounds
  3. Able to perform all tasks of all D.C. positions
  4. Long periods of standing
  5. Frequent bending and twisting
  6. Ability to respond to after-hours calls in a timely manner, and work weekends as necessary
  7. Excellent people/communication skills
  8. Excellent analytical skills

Education, Training and Experience
  1. High school diploma or GED required
  2. Minimum 5 years prior Distribution Center managerial experience including use of state of the art technology
  3. Previous managerial experience
  4. Experience with Lean Six Sigma preferred
