Accounts Receivable Services at the University of Minnesota seeks a highly motivated financial and customer-focused Accounts Receivable (AR) Manager to lead and provide operational excellence in delivering systemwide AR services.

This position will offer experiences that allow you to use your leadership and team building skills to motivate and engage a team of financial professionals working in the areas of customer maintenance, billing, cash application, collections, and payment cards; use your communication skills to engage stakeholders across the University system; and build on your technical and analytical accounting skills to ensure the integrity of accounts receivable transactions.

Salary Range: $82,500 - $98,000, DOQ

Work Environment: Hybrid (2-3 days per week in the office)

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • 40% - Manage the customer maintenance and non-sponsored billing and accounts receivable functions for the University including cash receipts, lockbox accounts, electronic funds transfer, credit card payments and reconciliation, management of on-account payments, refunds, collections, sales tax filing for EFS billed invoices, etc.
    • Maintain working knowledge of department processes.
    • Maintain up-to-date written procedures, standards and metrics.
    • Stay informed of changes and impacts to current internal and external regulations, systems, etc.
    • Serve as a resource to the University, resolve issues as needed.
    • Identify, create and maintain training resources, conduct related training.
    • Review and approve transactions that are routed for approval.
    • Duties may also include management of payment card processes.
  • 30% - Supervise six accounting/finance staff members
    • Establish plans and priorities, allocate resources, and manage workflow.
    • Oversee onboarding for new team members.
    • Provide training and coaching to develop and maintain a team that is knowledgeable of accounts receivable processes, business trends, technology applications, and the University of Minnesota.
    • Provide feedback on performance and assist with professional development goal setting and achievement.
    • Motivate and engage the team by helping them understand how and why their work is an important part of achieving the University's mission.
  • 15% - Perform accounting functions as assigned.
    • Oversee and complete balance sheet account reconciliations.
    • Manage periodic and year-end reporting.
    • Analyze financial data and reports for accuracy, investigate and address any discrepancies.
  • 15% - Other duties as assigned which may include:
    • Perform special projects, lead and participate in workgroups.
    • Recommend process improvements and system modifications.
    • Ensure compliance with annual audit recommendations.
    • Assist the director with establishing and implementing departmental strategies, goals, annual objectives, and long-range plans.

Qualifications


Required Qualifications (please document on the resume):

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration OR related field.
  • Eight years of accounts receivable, collection, treasury, financial accounting, reporting, auditing experience that demonstrates a knowledge of accounts receivable activities OR other related experience.
  • Demonstrated experience successfully supervising a diverse workforce.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse decentralized customers and constituents.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with spreadsheet, database, query and other PC-based analytical tools.
  • Strong organizational skills; ability to manage multiple responsibilities at one time.

  • Experience working with enterprise financial systems such as PeopleSoft, SAP, Workday, etc.
