Under the supervision of the Campus Community Safety Coordinator, performs a wide variety of college campus safety services using a community-oriented campus safety model to prevent violence and theft, provide access to college facilities, and respond to incidents affecting campus safety and security. May serve as field training officer to mentor student safety officers and provide training on building-level patrol procedures. Will engage in enforcing the rules and regulations governing students, faculty, and staff with superior customer service and ethical integrity.

Work is generally performed in both indoor and outdoor environments. Duties may require short travel from site to site: exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by weather; work irregular hours.

The Full-Time Campus Community Safety Officer position is a non-sworn position and is not authorized to carry a firearm or make arrests. Shifts will include overnights, weekends, and holidays.

This position will primarily work overnight shifts.

Shifts will be:

  • Sunday-Wednesday (9pm-7am) OR
  • Wednesday-Saturday (9pm-7am)

Essential Functions

1. Maintain and uphold the College values of Learning, Excellence, Accountability, Diversity, Student Success, Teamwork, Integrity, and Respect. Regular attendance is required.
2. Complete all required College training and be responsible for maintaining the skills necessary to complete the essential functions of the position as defined by the department. Perform other duties as assigned.
3. Student Success is the cornerstone of Western's culture and the college may assign employees as needed to other areas or additional duties to foster this success.
4. General Campus Safety Duties - Supporting Duty Statements:

  • Mentor student Campus Safety officers and provide training on building-level patrol procedures
  • Patrol campus facilities and parking lots and conduct parking enforcement
  • Collect and transport deposits from various locations to financial institutions
  • Check assigned areas for non-authorized individuals and/or suspicious activities
  • Immediately report any serious incident to the proper authorities and provide incident assistance as directed
  • Check for maintenance problems and safety/security concerns while completing patrols
  • Inspect AED devices on a monthly basis to ensure that they are in serviceable condition and conduct routine maintenance while inspecting related supplies such as CPR masks, razors, etc.
  • Inspect fire extinguishers on a monthly basis to ensure that they are in serviceable condition and that their storage areas are in good repair and free from obstructions
  • Ensure that there is an adequate supply of Naloxone in the various sites on main campus where it is stored for use by members of our campus community
  • Monitor vehicle usage to coordinate proper maintenance of tires, air filters, oil levels, and related mechanical elements of the Campus Safety vehicle
  • Complete duty reports, incident reports, injury reports, and documentation of inspections as needed
  • Carry out other duties, responsibilities, and obligations as assigned by a Campus Community Safety Coordinator

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Having surpassed 18 years of age as of the first day of employment in this role AND
  • 2 years of college completed at a regionally accredited institution OR
  • 60 college credits at a regionally accredited institution OR
  • 1000 hrs experience in related field OR
  • 1000 hrs combination of occupational experience in related fields and education
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Applicants with experience in security, law enforcement, corrections, and student engagement
Required Certifications/Licenses:
  • Valid Driver's License at time of hire (not an instructional permit)

This full-time position is 40 hours/week and eligible for benefits.
