Job Summary

Performs journey level HVAC work in the installation, maintenance and repairs related to heating, ventilating, air conditioning and related equipment.

Essential Functions

30% - Performs journey level installation, maintenance, repairs of heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment. Troubleshoots systems for damaged or worn out components; repairs or replaces parts. Conducts inspections of systems for leaks, abnormal noise, electrical defects; reviews testing to determine required repairs
20% - Performs equipment installations including evaporative coolers, diffusers, condensers, controls and other parts related to HVAC systems. Prepares tubing, piping, joints and fittings for new installations or equipment parts; cuts, reams, bends, connects tubing and/or pipe
20% - Performs maintenance and repair on air handlers, pumps and other related equipment; performs preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment; provides assistance with construction projects affecting HVAC equipment or systems
20% - Assists in getting cost estimates and initiating purchases; maintains tools, equipment and work site in clean and safe working condition
10% - Performs other duties as assigned. Coordinates work and oversees subcontractors; maintains inspection logs as required

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED and four years of experience as a journey level HVAC technician.

There is no substitution or equivalency allowable for the High School Diploma or GED.

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

Desired Qualifications

A. Three (3) years or more hands-on working experience as a journeyman level HVAC Tech in a large multi-family, commercial or industrial environment
B. One (1) year or more inspecting HVAC related work performed by others and documenting findings
C. One (1) year or more experience working from drawings, specifications and blueprints
D. One (1) year or more experience with code compliant layout and installation of new plumbing systems
E. One (1) year or more experience working with a computerized maintenance management system
F. One (1) year or more experience working with an energy management systems

Special Working Conditions

May be required to lift up to 50lbs.; may require numerous evenings or weekends; working in high temperatures, use of ladders and lifts to reach high locations, working in cramped areas, exposed to chemicals which may present a health hazard if not handled properly; may require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen; will be required to travel or be assigned to all MCCCD/RIO locations; must have a valid Arizona Class D Driver's license; must meet district minimum standards regarding driving:
