Overview

To provide specialized service and support for the on-site food service provider. Works closely with the kitchen staff. Reports issues associated with HVAC, refrigeration and cooking equipment to the Mechanical Services Supervisor. Responsible for investigating, diagnosing, and repairing commercial cooking, refrigeration, and/or HVAC equipment/systems for campus commercial kitchen, micro market and breakroom facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, determine, and complete mechanical requirements including requirements such as installation, operation, alteration, repair, and maintenance of commercial cooking, refrigeration, and or HAVC equipment
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot operational problems in accordance with recommended operational maintenance and repair guidance; may disassemble systems to repair problems
  • Identify problems and determine the most effective and efficient solution and perform the required maintenance or repair or adjustment
  • Test systems to perform preventive and repair maintenance
  • Research document, communicate and observe compliance with Navy Federal Credit Union, local, state, and federal regulatory guidelines pertaining to mechanical maintenance
  • Analyze scope of work to determine potential impact to related systems, equipment or staff required during installation, repair and/or maintenance and work closely with customers, contractors, and various levels of Navy Federal Credit Union; maintain high service levels communicating and collaborating with all parties
  • Provide recommendations to the Service Supervisor concerning safety issues, code compliance, and the prioritization of projects
  • Consult with part suppliers and manufacturers to diagnose operational issues, order replacement parts or equipment and execute timely repairs
  • Ensure food safety regulatory guidelines and procedures are being adhered to prevent product contamination
  • Ensure work safety procedures are being met to prevent any potential work place accidents
  • Consult with manufacturers, sales reps., dealers and employees as needed
  • Maintain proper inventory levels and organization for commercial kitchen, refrigeration and HVAC supplies and parts ensuring preparedness and minimal impact to service
  • Perform other duties as assigned or appropriate

Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge in the installation, maintenance, operation, and repair of both mechanical and computer driven systems and equipment associated with the operation and maintenance of commercial kitchen and HVAC
  • Successful completion of an Apprenticeship Program for HVAC mechanics or on the job formal training for equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of the tools, mathematics, codes, materials and safety regulations associated with the commercial kitchen and HVAC equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, work schedules, diagrams and manufacturers manuals
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member to gain cooperation of others required to complete a task
  • Journeyman's license or equivalent experience level for HVAC mechanics
  • Universal Refrigeration Transition and Recovery certification
  • Must possess valid Driver's license
  • Experience that demonstrates thorough knowledge, skill and successful performance of job functions required for high level kitchen performance
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
