Under supervision: Troubleshoots, maintains, and programs electronic controls for mechanical and hydraulic equipment including but not limited to programmable controls and servo-drives. Provides skilled mechanical and electrical/electronic support to all areas of manufacturing. Isolates defects in wiring and motors using test instruments. Inspects equipment and diagnoses trouble. Dismantles machinery and replaces defective parts. Performs all work with adherence to safety procedures. Inspects completed work and insures it conforms to all safety codes. Estimates time and material costs. Requisitions supplies and equipment.

Job Responsibilities

  • Installs, programs, repairs, and maintains assets on all properties.
  • Performs tasks of substantial variety or complexity which require a masterly knowledge of computer operation and PLC programming, fabrication/processing techniques, tools, materials machines and equipment relative to area of specialization.
  • Must Satisfy quality standards.
  • Start machines and observe mechanical operation to determine efficiency and to detect problems.
  • Read work orders and specifications to determine machines and equipment requiring repair or maintenance.
  • Record production, repair, and machine maintenance information
  • Install, replace, or change machine parts and attachments, according to production specifications.
  • Works from engineering drawings, electrical schematics, rough sketches, manuals or verbal instructions.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Education:

  • Repairing - Repairing machines or systems using the needed tools
  • Troubleshooting - determine causes of operating errors
  • Critical thinking - using logic reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Complex problem solving - identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Active Learning - Understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Design - Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
  • Knowledge of an ERP system, PLEX preferred
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Maintenance technician certificate a plus, not required.
  • Requires having 2 years of experience in an automotive manufacturing maintenance.

Physical Demands, Visual, Hearing, Conditions

  • Stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead and bend to the floor.
  • Ability to climb in overhead structures, to work beneath machines and in close quarters performing analysis and repair work, with proper training.
  • Lifting up to 35 pounds.
  • Exert 50 to 100 pound of force occasionally.
  • Exert up to 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Near acuity or accommodations as required for reading gauges, prints and precision measuring instruments.
  • Ability to monitor machine sounds to identify and diagnose changes in order to take appropriate action
  • High noise levels from operating machines, but requires PPE to be worn
  • Physical hazards from moving equipment and machine parts
  • Breathing fumes, dust, and mist
  • Skin exposure to oils and cutting fluids.
