ENERGY SYSTEMS GROUP is looking for a Controls and Maintenance Supervisor to join our Operation Services team at Fort Detrick Energy Production Facility in Frederick, Maryland. This position is on site.



The Controls and Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all Building Automation Systems, IT Network, OSI PI Historian, and Fire and Security controls related equipment/maintenance at Fort Detrick Energy Production Facility (EPF) and Signal Campus. Under minimal supervision, this individual supervises and directs preventive maintenance, repair, installation, commissioning and general servicing of the controls aspect of boiler, chiller, and conditioned emergency power systems (including detailed troubleshooting of systems). This position is also responsible to provide field supervision of plant operations and coordination of the Electrician, Lead LPO Mechanic, and 10-Hour Day-Shift maintenance activities; identifying maintenance needs; and providing controls vendor quality control.



The essential functions of the position include:




  • Supervises the Lead LPO Mechanic, Plant Electrician, and 10-hour day staff. Working with the Assistant Facility Manager; assigns work orders and oversees proper and safe task completion

  • Monitors the Building Automation System trending reports for accuracy, alerting the Service Order Supervisor and Facility Manager when errors are observed which may cause meter-reading errors

  • Installs, repairs, maintains and adjusts the indicating, recording, telemetering, and controlling instruments used to measure and control variables such as pressure, flow, temperature, motion, force, and chemical composition, using hand tools and precision instruments

  • Diagnoses and repairs complex control systems malfunctions requiring extensive knowledge of a variety of electronic or digital controls systems and ability to test and write modifications in multiple languages of systems software

  • Disassembles malfunctioning instruments; examines and tests mechanism(s) and circuitry for defects; troubleshoots equipment in or out of control system and replace or repair defective parts; reassembles instrument(s) and test assembly for conformance with specifications using instruments such as potentiometer, resistance bridge, manometer, and pressure gauge; inspects instruments periodically and makes minor calibration adjustments to ensure functioning within specified standards

  • Manages assigned work to meet professional and efficient execution of time and customer satisfaction. Reports problems or changes to management immediately. Interfaces with facility management, service order manager or subcontractors on projects to coordinate activities as required in an ethical and professional manner

  • Adjusts and repairs final control mechanisms, such as automatically controlled valves or positioners, and calibrates instruments according to established standards

  • Connects motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls, and circulating ventilation fans to control panels and connects control panels to power source

  • Observes temperature, pressure, and vacuum gauges and adjusts controls to ensure proper operation

  • Replaces defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring to repair installed units

  • Provides sketches of field changes and discrepancies for engineering corrections and drawings. May assist with job layouts and bid proposals

  • Installs, tests, repairs, and/or troubleshoots stand-alone PCs, PCs linked to networks, printers, and other computer peripherals



Your background includes:




  • Five (5+) years' related work experience, especially working with instrument controls, HVAC controls, etc.
