Description

Performs skilled electrical installation, maintenance and repair work.

  • Performs maintenance, installation and repair electrical systems and power distribution systems.
  • Reads blueprints and schematic drawings to install and repair interior and exterior lighting systems and electrical fixtures, including receptacles, switches, doorbells and buzzers, alarm systems, thermostats, ballasts, circuit breakers and panels, irrigation systems, time clocks, motors, generator, transformers and computer terminals.
  • Maintains and repairs communication systems, electrical heating and air conditioning systems and appliances.
  • Locates malfunctions in electrical systems and equipment, repairs or replaces parts.
  • Trains new employees.
  • Estimates labor and materials needed to complete assigned work, requisitions supplies and materials.
  • Maintains records of time and materials used to complete work.
  • Climbs ladders to access roof tops to perform related work tasks and ceiling tile replacement.
  • Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school boards policies and the professional standards.

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Master electrician.
  • Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or an equivalent out-of-state driver's license acceptable to the Department of Personnel's Division of Safety required.
  • Three years of electrical maintenance, installation or repair, or building construction electrical experience.
  • Knowledge of the methods, techniques, tools and equipment used in the maintenance, installation and repair of electrical lighting and distribution systems and other standard equipment.
  • Knowledge of current national electrical codes and standards.
  • Ability to operate hand and power tools used in electrical work.
  • Ability to layout routine electrical systems and to read and interpret sketches, drawings and blueprints.
  • Ability to interact with others effectively.
  • Ability to complete routine forms and maintain records.
