Heat Trace/Electrical Technician Job Summary

As a heat trace / electrical technician, you will be responsible for ensuring that plant heat trace systems (AKO) and electrical systems are operated and maintained correctly. Technician will be responsible for repairing & troubleshooting these systems in addition to completing electrical work orders in low and high voltage systems at the facility and maintenance troubleshooting of motors and electrical circuits. Incumbents are expected to work rotating shifts covering 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays and overtime as required. This is a safety sensitive position.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs all work according to Atlantica's safety policies.
  • Split your time between:
  1. Maintaining and repairing plant specific heat trace systems (AKO).
  2. Supporting plant maintenance and operations to install, repair or replace, and troubleshoot/test new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, panels, switches, breakers, and controls located in and near installation buildings and structures.
  • Write, review, and implement company procedures as needed.
  • Performs both repairs and troubleshooting in the field when required.
  • Always maintains good housekeeping, including company vehicles.
  • Updates work orders in the SAP system. Maintains quality work logs, including feedback, necessary parts and required actions to see project/job through to completion.
  • Assists other departments when necessary.
  • Understands and operates facility to maintain all compliance requirements.
  • Completes all Atlantica assigned training requirements in a timely manner.
  • While working rotating shifts, 12 hours per day, all meal periods and breaks shall be considered as paid, on-duty time. The employee will coordinate work activities with co-workers and the supervisor, as appropriate, to facilitate the applicable meal and break periods.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

Use and maintain various types of hand and/or power tools, such as screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutters, soldering irons, cable pullers, hydraulic benders, and pipe threading machines. In addition, use a wide variety of test equipment including test lamps, multimeters, circuit analyzers, circuit breaker testers, voltage recording meters, meggers, watt meters, ohmmeters, and ammeters underground utility locators, thermography camera and 30' and 60' boom lifts.

Requirements:

Prerequisites

  • Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED), plus 3+ years direct work experience as an Electrical Technician in an industrial environment. Previous experience with AKO heat trace system or other similar heat trace systems preferred.
  • Ability to design, perform and review preventive maintenance task associated with all the electrical equipment that pertains to a industrial power plant.
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical and electronic theory.
  • Experience, at the Journeyman level, with heat trace installation and maintenance.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and single line drawings, loop drawings, and P&ID drawings.

Skills and Abilities

  • Possesses a good attitude, self-motivated and works well within a team.
  • Ability to operate a computer in accessing/updating work orders and stores information.
  • Ability to function with limited to no supervision or technical assistance.
  • Ability to adapt to different work schedules and eventual weekends in case of special projects/ outages.
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment failures, analyze process conditions and impacts in order to recommend improvements for reliability issues.
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment and schedule as needs arise.
  • Shows the ability and desire to gain new skills / knowledge to progress in an ever-changing environment.

Essential Functions of the Job

The ability to speak, read and write in English. Ability to perform heavy physical work, occasionally exerting up to 100 pounds of force with assistance, 50 pounds of force on a frequent basis, and up to 20 pounds constantly, performing such activities as grasping, lifting, reaching, crouching, standing, walking, running, climbing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, sitting, and repetitive tasks. Ability to use emergency equipment in emergency situations, such as respirators and S.C.B.A. (self-contained breathing apparatus). The ability to discern assorted colors.


Working Conditions

Works in normal power plant environment. Potential exposure to hot, cold, sudden change of temperature, dry, wet, dusty, quiet, noisy, moving objects, exposure to sun and rain, high places, and working alone or with others. Potential hazards include minor cuts, minor burns, electrical shock, falling objects, falls, eyesight and hearing impairment. Wearing of personal protective equipment is necessary, as is the ability to legally operate Company vehicles. Works 12-hour shifts, day or night, with on-duty meals and break periods.
