Summary:


Repairs and maintains the manufacturing areas and facilities by being highly skilled in one or more fields of expertise, but also has an advanced and/or general working knowledge of the following:



Mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic troubleshooting, installation, and assembling of packaging and mixing equipment. Mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic troubleshooting, installation, and assembling of packaging and mixing equipment. Sheet metal layout/fabrication, tig/arc welding, acetylene welding and cutting pipe and plumbing fitting, instrumentation



Essential Duties & Responsibilities:




  • Works directly with the Maintenance Supervisor, Maintenance Planner / Scheduler and other mechanics to troubleshoot and repair equipment and infrastructure.

  • Quickly responds to Production line calls so Production personnel know the status of their machinery and repairs.

  • Operates machinery in order to test their performance.



  • Troubleshoots and repairs Production department electrical equipment.



  • Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.

  • Adjusts functional parts of machinery and control equipment to make them work more efficient.

  • Dismantles machinery to gain access to and remove/repair defective parts.

  • Inspects some used and new parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements and to detect imperfections.



  • Plans, schedules, and self prioritizes daily work activities per plant/utility needs

  • Follow OSHA and Griffith Foods safety rules and requirements all time.

  • Follow lock out- tag out procedures.



  • Efficiently tracks daily work and time spent on each job and correctly summarizes the time spent on each work category at day's end utilizing the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

  • Works with Parts Inventory clerk for ordering for parts and equipment.

  • Evaluates and recommends improvements in methods, procedures and processes.

  • Performs PM's and lubrication as needed

  • Performs all work utilizing Good Manufacturing Practices.

  • Assist in training of Maintenance personnel on plant equipment




Qualifications:




  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); five years maintenance experience required

  • Food or chemical manufacturing experience required

  • The ideal candidate will have knowledge and/or experience in the following fields: Safety - Industrial and Personal, Electrical, Mechanical, Pneumatic, Hydraulic, Basic PLC programming, Pipe fitting/Plumbing

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed oral or written instructions; Ability to analyze and solve problems.

  • Computer Skills:


Must be able to utilize CMMS to enter PM and Work Order data.


Must be Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel



  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:


    • Forklift Operator Certification or be able to obtain one within one year of being hired.




  • Other Skills & Abilities:

    • Must be able to complete a course or courses in Maintenance Mechanic Training annually or as needed.

    • Must be willing to attend Maintenance related trainings and classes to expand skillset.





Physical Demands




  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 80 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.



Work Environment




  • Employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions. The noise level is moderate. Hearing protection is required in designated areas.
