Job Summary

Auburn University Facilities Management is excited to begin the search for a 2nd Shift Plumber to join the team! The hours for this position are from 3:30pm - 12:00am. This individual will help maintain, install, and replace plumbing pipes, fittings, and fixtures within campus facilities and infrastructure according to the National Plumbing Code.

A 10% shift differential will be paid for all hours of a regularly assigned evening or night shift provided the employee actually works four hours or more between the hours of 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.

Essential Functions
Level I:

  • Repairs and maintains internal building plumbing systems as well as associated sanitary sewer drains. Fixes routine problems involving drains, toilets, urinals, sinks, faucets, fixtures, valves, and domestic water supply piping.

  • Installs plumbing piping, fittings, fixtures, valves, and other related appliances according to the National Plumbing Code as part of a project work crew or repair team. Assists in the repairs of water distribution piping and sanitary sewer piping.

  • Performs preventative maintenance on building plumbing systems including drains, strainers, and valves.

  • Will be responsible for meeting and maintaining training and certification requirements as outlined by the Auburn University Facilities Management Policy: "Training, Education, and Certification Requirements for Mechanical and Electrical Trades Personnel".

  • May be required to serve in an on-call status and remain work-ready when scheduled for an on-call period or rotation. Work-ready status requires an employee to return to the worksite within forty five minutes while being physically and mentally unimpaired and fit for duty, able to safely perform all essential job functions with no risk to self, coworkers, students, public, or property.



Level II:

  • Repairs, installs, and replaces water and sanitary sewer piping, fittings, fixtures (sinks, faucets, toilets, urinals, etc.), valves, pumps, strainers, backflow preventers, boilers, hot water heaters, and water supply lines to equipment and appliances interior to campus buildings.

  • Repairs, installs, and replaces exterior water distribution and storm sewer lines and related infrastructure across campus.

  • Works on project crews executing large and complex new plumbing installation or replacement projects of building plumbing systems. Leads small project crews.

  • Troubleshoots and leads routine and non-routine emergency repairs on exterior water distribution and storm drainage systems as well as interior building plumbing and gas systems.

  • Will be responsible for meeting and maintaining training and certification requirements as outlined by the Auburn University Facilities Management Policy: "Training, Education, and Certification Requirements for Mechanical and Electrical Trades Personnel".

  • May be required to serve in an on-call status and remain work-ready when scheduled for an on- call period or rotation. Minimum Qualifications





Minimum Qualifications

Level I- High school diploma or equivalent plus 2 years of experience in installation, maintenance, repair, and operation of a wide array of common plumbing system components.

Level II- Some college; vocational or Associate's Degree with focus in plumbing systems and equipment, pipe fitting, HVAC systems and equipment, basic electricity, or other related field plus 5 years of experience in installation, maintenance, repair, and operation of a wide array of common plumbing system components.

Substitutions allowed for Education:
6 years of experience accepted in lieu of education requirement for Level II

Certification or Licensure Requirements:
Valid Driver's License (Level I & II) and a Valid Journeyman's Plumber's License (Level II)

To be considered for Level II, finalist candidates will be required to produce documentation that verifies training and/or certification hours.
