DIVISION OVERVIEW:

Crown’s Closures, Aerosol & Promotional Packaging (CAPP) Division manufactures a variety of packaging solutions for the largest consumer packaging companies in North America. Our distinguished list of clients including SC Johnson, Abbott Laboratories and Unilever. We manufacture total packaging solutions including:

 

Closures: We manufacture a variety of decorative food and metal vacuum sealed closures, metal and composite closures, capping systems for glass and plastic container manufacturers.

Aerosol Packaging: We manufacture cans and ends for manufacturers of personal care, food, household, and industrial products. We offer our customers a broad range of products including multiple sizes, color schemes and shaped packaging.

Promotional and Specialty Packaging: We manufacture a wide array of decorative containers with numerous lid and closure variations.

LOCATION: SPARTANBURG, SOUTH CAROLINA

 

Position Overview:

The Plant Engineer will be responsible for providing engineering expertise and support to all aspects of plant operations. The Plant Engineer will support the goals and strategies for improving the operations and processes within the organization set by the Plant Manager.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

This position will report to the Plant Manager to provide engineering support and help to implement production and manage the Spartanburg, SC, Aerosol business processes with respect to the following:

 

  • Manage all aspects of the steel can/end forming process and operations
  • Develop job completion schedules and monitor their progress
  • Provide and coordinate appropriate training for plant personnel
  • Mentor and coach plant personnel
  • Coordinate new equipment installation
  • Manage tooling and line changes
  • Facilitate new product line trials
  • Provide operational troubleshooting and problem solving
  • Manage equipment design and product line design
  • Coordinate and take part in manufacturing and or safety audits
  • Provide appropriate customer support
  • Manage and budget project costs
  • Facilities and grounds- coordinate with outside contractors to maintain plant support equipment (air compressors, air dryers, vacuum pumps, nitrogen generators, chillers and fire systems) building and grounds.
  • Manage the work order system and utilize daily maintenance meetings to set priorities.
  • Manage the storeroom and purchasing departments.  Be mindful of the budget for repair materials and supplies and services.
  • Manage EPM&R program while coordinating with corporate engineering
  • Reduce storeroom value by 5% or more
  • Actively participate in a 5S event
  • Manage all PAR’s assigned to Spartanburg

Qualifications:

In addition to the qualifications and experience listed above, the ideal candidate will possess the following:

 

Minimum Requirements

  • BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, or a related technical discipline
  • 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing/process environment
  • Minimum of (3) years leading Lean Manufacturing activities
  • Certification in Six Sigma and/or Lean manufacturing would be a plus
  • Some practical experience with managing projects (equipment installation, upgrades, etc.) both individually and in a team environment
  • Approximately 10% overnight travel

 

Preferred Requirements

Ø Experience in high-speed metal packaging related to the manufacture or use of Beverage, Food or Aerosol packaging

  • Strong background and working knowledge of lean manufacturing principles.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to effectively solve problems both on an individual and collaborative approach.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced manufacturing operation.
  • Strong analytical skills through extensive use of tools such as MS Excel.
  • Strong computer and design skills as well as some experience with Allen Bradley PLC/HMI Software as well as CAD/CAM software
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong relationship management, interpersonal, listening and communication skills

Ø Effective communicator in both written and verbal correspondence as well as an effective presenter.

Ø Strong knowledge of PC’s and software programs Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.

 

Physical Requirements

Ø While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and may be required to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

  • The associate may lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus

 

Working Conditions

  • Generally, works in an office environment but will be required to perform job duties outside of the typical office setting in a plant environment.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the associate may be exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicular traffic.
  • The associate may be exposed to a wide range of temperatures
  • The noise level is frequently loud
