Description

The Data Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, validating, and documenting the scripts required to extract, transform, clear, and move data and metadata from Springfield Clinic source systems into the healthcare data warehouse. Responsible for using his/her experience working with healthcare data warehouses, SQL, business intelligence design methodologies, and Springfield Clinic source systems to quickly develop and deploy these reports, dashboards, and/or data warehouse applications.

Principal Responsibilities.

  • Works closely with the Data Operations Lead to write SQL queries and develop Tableau dashboards to support the organization's data needs.
  • Assess user needs and provide feedback to management and/or vendor for future product growth and development.
  • Identify and assess potential data sources as appropriate.
  • Coordinate prototype reviews.
  • Design, propose, and implement application solutions that address business process needs.
  • Gather the appropriate data for use in designing, coding, and testing program logic to devise simple and elegant solutions that meet required end-user specifications.
  • Recommend appropriate project scope/requirements using his/her experience working with healthcare data and Springfield Clinic specific source systems and business users to include requirements for data, visualizations, metadata, training, data quality, performance.
  • Translate requirements into technical specifications.
  • Install, configure, deploy, and tune BI tools.
  • Troubleshoot BI tool problems and tune for top performance.
  • Comply with the Springfield Clinic incident reporting policy and procedures.
  • Adhere to all OSHA and Springfield Clinic training & accomplishments as required per policy.
  • Provide excellent customer service and adhere to Springfield Clinic's Code of Conduct and Ethics Standards.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.

Education/Experience

  • Must have either an Associate or Bachelor degree in a relevant field (i.e. Management Information Systems, Computer Sciences, Accounting, Finance, etc.) or experience writing SQL queries and developing dashboards.
  • Proficient at developing interactive reports and dashboards with at least one BI product suite; Tableau experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of various software applications including at least one listed GE Centricity, Allscripts Touchworks, PeopleSoft, Health Catalyst Core Platform and Applications, MS Visual Studio, MS Office and other clinical applications preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to provide reliable transportation to commute between Clinic facilities as required for Clinic operations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with users, colleagues and developers on both a technical and non-technical level.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities while representing good organizational skills.
  • General knowledge of healthcare industry, clinical and business operation functions.
  • Demonstrates attention to detail in data gathering, specifications development, documentation and record keeping.
  • Demonstrates initiative, strong work ethic, thoroughness and focus while working on results-oriented projects.
  • Broad knowledge of database concepts and computer business applications with specific proficiency with SQL languages and logic.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience with database structure, computer systems, applications and interfaces.
  • Organizational and multi-tasking skills, effective communication, and planning abilities are essential to the successful candidate.
  • Experience in ETL, Data Architecture, data stores, database design principles and practices.

Working Environment

  • Operates in a professional office environment.
  • Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
